BS: Will Canada stay attractive?

Just saw a news piece about how the Earth's magnetic North Pole is about to move out of Canada... any songs about that? Does anybody care? Were you happy to be the keepers of the pole, up there?

I'm sure compass manufacturers care....

of course - "about to move out" means they THINK it may be out of Canada and into Siberia in another couple years. If it doesn't slow down again - and if it maintains it's current trend.

Actual magnetic north pole can vary by quite a distance during a 24 hour period - and the average point drifts (currently) about 15 km a year

So that's why I sometimes come back out as much as fifty yards from where I went in after a day in the woods ! Gosh, I was ashamed to admit to being more than a step or two off point. I always told the lads it was because the load of partridge had me listing to one side.

I've heard that airline pilots who take viagra are responsible for screwing with magnetic north!

Hey, say what you want about viagra....

It just helps to prove one long standing fact, that no matter where the viagra man goes, he's always pointing in the right direction!

A while back I heard Jerry Lewis say that he once tried taking a whole bottle of Viagra all at the same time. Said he had a stiff neck for a week.

Yeah, there's quite a bit of talk about polar shifts these days out there....

On the whole, I think Canada has a better chance of staying attractive than most places, although Toronto is far less attractive than it once was. That's due to recent neo-conservative economic policies, and a vastly expanded population in the Metro area.

It used to be a very clean and well-kept city, but not anymore.

The really traumatic thing, if the pole shifts to Siberia, will be telling all the little ones that Santa Claus lives in the evil empire.....

By all rights the North Pole should be positioned somewhere between Warsaw and Gdansk, and the South Pole between Krakow and the Czech border, I would think...

As usual, the Russians are horning in where they're not wanted.

I would prefer if Canada were nearer the equator in any case, so let's get on with it.

That f-ing waste land was never attractive! It is best used as a site to store radioactive waste and ex-pate Froggers.

We should close the borders to Canuk people, trucks, produce and open it to our Amigos in the South.

It better. I'm saving the pennies for a trip there one of these years.

I suppose we can't complain if the Pole moves to Poland. At least they can have a great homecoming celebration.

And speaking of major earth changes and things Canadian, a very happy birthday to Mr. William Shatner who, I believe, turns 71 today (March 22).

I'm just now watching (and listening) to him singing a stunning rendition of the World News Now Polka with Barry Mitchell on ABC World News Now. Simply breathtaking (but not sexy).

BTW, ABC World News Now is a secret propaganda arm of Canada, inasmuch as most of the people who make and work for the show are Canadian. Great show, although it has suffered from its association with Disney in recent years.

I recently bought a leather chair made in China. It is a poorly designed, poorly built piece of s..t. The other day, I bought an office chair made in Canada.Excellent design, excellent quality and a reasonable price. Dont knock Canada in my presence mate.

It's not so much the movement creating a problem for the world as it does for the communities involved. I mean the bidding wars to host a Magnetic North are fierce and in most cases the towns invest more in trying to lure the powers that be to them than they will make by hosting Magnetic North. I think the Polar Organizing Committee sees this as just another money making opp and the whole thing should be taken over by the UN and Magnetic North then could be permanently located at Polar North and bring back the true spirit of both the North and Santa Claus as well.

Just about everything made in Canada is a reassonable price if you're paying in $US. Recently, I cashed a $US100 rebate cheque for my new puter and got $Cdn165.50. So, the entire USA should vacation here and spend, spend, spend.

Har har har! This is the most anarchic thread I've seen in a while.

"Canada is barbaric without being picturesque."
I saw that piece about Magnetic North. Said the scientists were surprised at the speed of the pole's migration. This frightens me, somehow. I dunno. (Eventually, or periodically, the magnetic poles reverse, don't they? *Why*?)

Yeah & wot about the new Rhode Island-sized iceberg that just plopped off of Antarctica? And the asteroid that just narrowly missed us with nobody noticing?? WHO'S MINDING THE STORE, here? Harrumph.

Whoa!! The diss-Canada quote above somehow lost its attribution. Supposedly stated by Brendan Behan. (Not me! Not Me!) :)

We Canadians love it when foreigners insult Canada, because it happens so seldom. :-) All that praise gets kinda boring after a while.

"Canada is barbaric without being picturesque."

...anyway, I think it's pretty safe to say that anyone who would make a statement like that has never been to Canada. They were probably thinking about New Jersey (or West Virginia).

Well Behan had indeed been to Canada; but there's no accountin' for taste, or lack thereof. / Supposedly he also said that when Canadians accused him of rampant Irish Catholicism, he asked them to "write it down, so I can show them back at home." // But forget about that crap. What about the iceberg?

Newsflash! Canada may* soon pass legislation to provide funding for the erection of William Shatner statues in all major centres, and even in some smaller places...like Moosejaw, Pickle Lake, and Blind River. This is expected to increase tourism (specially female tourism) dramatically, and it will make the Great White North even more stunningly attractive than it already is! Eat your hearts out, yanks!

The iceberg is looking for a ship, but hasn't found one large enough yet to suit its requirements.

DESCENT, man! Shatner is a goof, but we still rate a statue coz Blind River is my honmetown eh? Only a compleat looser would say that Canada could not be attracktive someday. CAnada RULES!!! We invented hockey, beer, pucks, snowmobiles and...beavers...and...beer. I think. Well maybve we didennt invent beer but weve still got the best beer. We invented CANADIAN BEER, eh? and Canadian beer RULES!!!

I should know. I've drank a sh*tload of it.

I am not worried about the iceberg. It will not get anywhere near Blind River cos it would have to come up the St Lawrence first, and I figure the Frogs would break it up for ice cubes beforeit ever got thourhgh. The might talk funny but theny aint stupid. Well, not that stupid anyway.

You wanta bringf emales tourists to Blind River, man, just tell 'em where I live. Tell 'em Shane is waitin'! I got a big thrirst and a libildo to match it!
