Very interesting, John.

But how can they have Frequently Asked Questions when it's not even open yet? Hmmm?

Thanks for the link Noreen, it is open to taxi drivers already, so they can tell normal people what it is like, and it will be opened by prince Andrew today.
here is what some people said about it = Paul Cartledge ="I expected it to be good, but not that good"
Marc Pitson ="We looked at different types of fish and what they do.We had a quiz to see which of the other animals kill the fish, I learned how the fish live"
Jack Collier="We went in a games room and moved around doing different activities.I learned what sharks do when you can't see them."

Noreen I expect the most frequently asked question when walking along the quay in Hull is "What the bloody hell is that?" It's huge and looks just like a ship. We saw it when we were in Hull a few weeks ago and it was quite mistyso it looked like the Titanic was paying a ghostly visit!! We are hoping to go there soon depending on cost etc.

Thanks for the link John. It looks very interesting.

I'll probably give this one a visit sometime in the year. Got to speak nicely to Pip... At the moment, my mind is saying a visit to The Deep, tea in Hull then on to a session - maybe in Hull or maybe in Barton on Humber...

I've got to try and get to the Bangor weekend in April first though...

Mrs Duck-The admision is cheap, and little people go free. Jezebel-I hopefully see you next week at the yorkshire gathering.
Guy-It was good to see you in Hull, when are you coming again?
Jon-You would like it in Hull, there are loads of good sessions in the area.
Mrs Cobble-It was a lot cheaper than the dome, and who would want to go to that London place anyway? It is full of shandy-drinking southerners! :-)

We did try to visit the Deep back in March but the traffic was queuing about 2 miles back from the roundabout so we decided to give it a miss and headed for Brid instead. We may try again next week as we are on half term holiday but many others won't be til the week after. Are the queues getting any shorter??

Mrs Duck-The did not expect The Deep to be any were nere as succsessful as it is (the yearly break even figure is 100,000 visitors, but that many people went in the first 2 months!) so they only built a little car park, I think they must have thought people would walk there! A good option would be for you to use The Park and Ride facility, you can park all day there for free and the bus to city centre is only 10p, it is on Walton Street (the fairground site) I seem o remember you did your degree at Hull university, so you will probably know where it is, if not, it is well sign posted from the A63, I think it's the 3rd off-slip after The Humber Bridge. If you buy your tickets at The City Tourist Office (next to the City Hall) you can get an express pass for only 1 pound extra, this enables you to go straight in without queing.
There is buses from City Centre to The Deep every 10 minutes, for only 10p, I don't know what number the buses are but if you ring Hull City Bus Services on 01482 222222 they will tell you.I reckon the express pass scheme is probably well worth it, as when they first opened people were queing for over 2 hours to get in!

I reckon weekdays will be quieter, If you want to go to a folk session after your visit there are loads to choose from, on Mondays there is Nellies folk Club in Beverley, and there is usually a folk or blues artist apearing at The Tap & Spile, Spring Bank (used to be called The Eagle, On Tuesdays there are loads of sessions, Sun Inn in Beverley, The Hase in Hessle, Musicians session at The Tap and there is Skipjacks session in Barton to name just a few,
If you want to get the whole sea experince at once you could also visit The Arctic Corsair (a preserved deep sea trawler) website at www.arctic-corsair.co.uk .And if you ask nicely Les might give you his guided tour of The Town Docks Museum, he knows loads about boats/ships etc.And if it's a nice day you should walk around The Marina, and take photos of the rich peoples yachts, and eat ice cream.
Bob-You would be very welcome, if you ever get around here let me know and I will give you my address, I am sure you could give me some good guitar tips! I would take you to a local session as well, Hull is probably the most folk friendly city in the UK, there are jam sessions, sinarounds and musicians nights on every night of the week , there is also the annual shanty festival on the marina.I don't know when this is but it is in summer.john

Mr & Mrs Duck-Here is another thing you could do! You could do a pub crawl with a difference, just vibit all the pus in Hull that have got a sea/fishing connection in their name ie The Ship, The Humber Pilot, The Norland, The Arctic Ranger, The Wane Ferry, The Minerva, Banks harbour, The Coxswain, The Humber Keel, The Oyster Catcher, The Sailmakers Arms, The Plimsoll ship, That old pub on Hedon Road near the docks, thats all i can think of now but i am sure there are loads more, I am sure some of the Hessle Road pubs are named after shhips/fish.john

I just remebered, some folkies work at The Deep. One of them is a tour guide, so if you say hello you might get a behind the scenes tour! I can't remember her name but she plays a drum at the Kingston and The Tap and Spile, and her husband called Grayum plays a banjo and he runs the Blues workshop/session in The Tap & Spile on Sunday afternoons.I rembered as well, if you que up for more than 2 hours they give you a free drink of orange!

I seem to be being magnetically, repeatedly drawn back to Hull again (spent 3 years at Univ. 20 years ago!). I think this is the Mudcat/Hull effect.
Will be up for the Sea Shanty festival, and will try to check out any local Thurs/Fri night sessions beforehand (staying with aunt in Willerby again)

Another good reason to visit Hull is to sniff the pungent air, no longer rank with rotting fish, but a lovely come-to-bed aroma of cocoa, wafting from the ADM plant in the old harbour. Hands up anyone who can smell it right now. Here on Cleveland Street it is particularly aromatic. You getting it down the marina, Les?

And "Eau de Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive - Humbercare Project" (until we get the machinery working properly). Motto: "Give a couple of years and we'll take 4, sod up the town and stink like feck in the interim". Even Mr Twigger (who plays pipes) sometimes curls a nostril or two. It's from the Spanish quarter, we suspect. Hello jOhn!

Helloo Oaklet.
Gary 9-I am very familiar with the stench of Anglia Palm oil, also Prep, and the speciality oils they produce 9garlic flavour olive oil etc) I was a process operator at Anglia oils on King George Dock.it was one of the smelliest places i have werked at, the smelliest being Oakland, Poppleton, near York, 9a turkey factory), i used to come home stinking of turkey shit every day, I was in the killing room, so used to get covered in the stuff.
