Lyr Req: Whale Song (Steve Grimes)

From: GUEST,mail4marc@aol.com

Does anyone know a folksy song whose chorus goes something like "Where in the world are the whales...where do they wander way under the waves...what would you wonder if somebody wondered, where in the world are the whales"... I think the group that sang the song was called Feast or Famine. I know that this isn't much to go on but i'd really appreciate anyone's help with lyrics, chords or the like.

Thanks a Bunch!

I found a website for a band called Feast or Famine, and on page V there is contact info. It's here. Be warned, there are a LOT of pop up ads, and the site won't let you escape either. No lyrics for your whale song, and none of the phrases turned up anything either.

Thanks Sorcha...But that Definately is not the group! HA! And what is up with all of those pop ups?? Earlier i viewed a pop-up that one had no way of closing! What is the cyber world coming to?

I will continue my search for the folk group that performs or performed the whale song...it is such a wonderful tune...

WHALE SONG
Words and music by Steve Grimes, Rock River Publishing, 1983
As recorded by Sally Rogers on "Piggyback Planet" (1990 Round River Records)

CHORUS: Where in the world are the whales?
Where do they wander way under the waves?
What would you tell them if somebody wondered
Where in the world are the whales?

1. The blue whale's the largest of all of the mammals
And she lives where the water's like ice,
And the sperm whale lives down by the equator
'Cause she thinks the warm water is nice. CHORUS

2. The right whale swims in the northern Pacific
From Alaska on down to Japan.
And the gray whale swims down to South California
And she stays close to land when she can. CHORUS

3. The humpback whale swims down round Hawaii
And he feeds upon small krill and kelp.
The killer whale swims in the Puget Sound waters.
When they see him, the people cry, "Help!" CHORUS

Where in the world are the whales?
Where do they wander when under the waves?
What would you tell them if somebody asked you
Where in the world are the whales?
(Refrain)

from a band called Northern Lights- folk artists
My kids grew up with this song and loved it.
Now, I too, am trying to find it!!

I cannot find the music for this - so far, Sally Rogers is not singing this song. feel free to correct me .

Heard this many years ago by a local group around Wisconsin. they sang several other songs, such as: and I'm gonna get dirty, and I'm gonna have fun.

I would give up my last hot fudge sundae if someone can find someone who has sung this.....lyrics, step one, music score, two

It's on Lee Murdock's recently released 'Loving Light" CD. I heard him intro it at the homecoming Concert, but didn't know what song he was talking about until after the story.

You can hear Sally Rogers sing it on Spotify (albeit mislabeled as "Garbage")

Unfortunately, couldn't turn up the Northern Lights recording. They released it on 2 albums which a few scattered libraries seem to hold, but nothing online.

While we're talking about whales, I thought I'd share this song by the Mike Aiken Band -
Save the Whales
