Very nice too. For the website, I'm with little john on it maybe being a bit dark. But it was neat the way you had the picture with the individual captains on the faces. And the sound was good and quick.

Come on back and tell us more about yourself and how it's going.(And I hope you make sure to have a fair amount of Norwegian music in your repertoire. It's brilliant stuff some of that, and has all kinds of links with the traditions in Ireland and Scotland and Northumbria. A lot of our ancestors came from up that way after all.)

Thanks for picking up my thread, Little John, McGrath and Boab.

You're not the first to have mentioned our site being a wee bit dark, so I think I'll have our webmaster do something about that.

Yeah, it's me singing Loch Lomond. I sound a bit more guttural than I normally do, and I miss out on one or two words, so I'm not too happy with that part. But it's a lovely song, and always a success when we're out playing. Most Norwegians know the tune, but perhaps not arranged the way we've done it. What do you think?

The thought about including Norwegian folk is interesting, and one we've mentioned only in passing. But the reason for doing some is obvious, as you said.

I'd like to include more Scottish songs, too. Any suggestions?

Lovely site, enjoyed hearing the music as well, great job on Loch Lomond. The dark screen didn't bother me too much. I would be interested in hearing some Norwegian folk too, as I've never heard any to my knowledge.

never mind Ireland Scotland and Northumbria. Thebest and purest links are between Norway and Cumbria. Send me an address if you would like a CD of Cumbrian tunes, I'll swop for one of yours. Good luck Greg

... and I certainly will. But the thing is, the only recorded material we've got is a promo CD with the four songs that are already on our website. After all, Killieburne Brae have only existed as a six-strong band since last December.

But we'll be playing on Saturday, and our sound engineer has plans to record the gig on mini disc. There will be no studio mix done on it, so it will be completely raw, as we record the gig for our own learning purposes mainly. But hopefully it will come out audible enough, so if you're still interested, Greg, I'd be happy to swop CDs with you!

I agree with you Little John. Eilert is superb. I have his Greatest Hits in my collection. His timing is simply unsurpassable, and of the greatest inspiration to me.

And another thing: We do a song called The Crack was 90 in the Isle of Man. Sometimes it is spelt Craic, and what does craic mean?

If youre English, crack is an old English word meaning "lively conversation in good company"; it has been borrowed by the Irish, and respelt as"craic" to give it a history as an Irish word for tourist brochure purposes. If youre Irish, "craic" is an old Irish word, meaning "lively conversation in good company, accompanied by bodhrans": it has been borrowed by the English, and respelt as "crack" to make it look like an old English word. In a recent thread on this subject, contributors supported the English origin, but I dont think any serious linguistic scholars have yet arrived to settle the matter.
