Is this what you're looking for?

THE DESTROYER by The Kinks

I don't usually think of the Kinks as Folk/Blues...

Oh, I thought it was this one:

I wuv you, I wuv you, said the little green man
I wuv you, I wuv you to bits
I wuv you! He loved me, said the little green man
And scared me right out of my wits!

Last heard - fortunately - round about 1963!

I remember that one as the little BLUE man - something about how she's out shopping and he sees her and starts following her and she freaks out and does something or other, and it ends with him saying "I don't wuv you anymore" - ?? I remember it from earlier than 1963 because I was a little kid and it always made me sad (!!). Now it's making me crazy. Anyone shed any light?

Bonnie, The Little Blue Man sung by Betty Johnson came out about 1958 and it made me, as a kid, sad too. The lyrics are are readily available on the Net at a number of sites.

One morning as I was out walking
Though you'll find it hard to believe
A little blue man stepped out of the crowd
And urgently tugged at my sleeve

"I wuv you! I wuv you!" said the Little Blue Man
"I wuv you, I wuv you to bits!".
"I wuv you!" -- he loved me, said the Little Blue Man
And scared me right out of my eits!

Oddly enough, I had the original sheet music from this really odd song in the bottom of a box somewhere, and Barky just uncovered it yesterday and brought it to me. It has my signature on it in a really childish scrawl :>) Don't answer that!!

If someone wants the rest of the lyrics, ask me and I'll stick them in. It is not really any kind of folk music -- it is representative of the saccharine featureless stuff that used to be spread all over the Hit Parade before Bill Haley showed up!! :>) Cf "Doggy In the Window", "Love fForever True", "Anastasia", and so on.

Regards,

A

Here are the rest of 'em:

I hurried back to my apartment.
I rushed in and I closed the door!
But there on my desk stood the little blue man,
Who started to tell me once more.

(Chorus)

For weeks after that I was haunted,
Though no one could see him but me!
Right by my side was the little blue man,
Wherever I happened to be.

(Chorus)

One evening in wild desperation,
I rushed to a roof top in town
And over the side pushed the little blue man,
Who sang to me all the way down!

(Chorus)

I whispered, "Thank goodness that's over";
I smiled as I hurried outside.
Nut there on the street stood the little blue man
Who said with a tear in hie eye....

(Spoken)     "I don't WUV you any more !"

Regards,

A

There was a song called the Little Blue Man, which someone has posted the lyrics to (it was by Betty Johnson), but there was also a song called the Little Green Man (or Men). I have both songs on 45 RPM records, but they are in storage.

The latter is about aliens visiting the earth. I can only remember a piece of the lyrics. Google has been less than helpful.

And through every US radio station, the little green men spoke to our nation, then we caught a translation of the funny little tune, saying, "See ya' later, alligator. Plant ya' now and dig ya' later." Up went the itty-bitty escalator and they flew back to the moon.

Yep, it was Pet Clarke in the UK - and he was green in her cover. It was around the time when she co-hosted 'Children's Favourites' on a Saturday morning.

I think this is the song you're looking for; my best friend always sang this song, and I learned it from him in the 60's. It had to be by a country western star, and I've been trying to find the actual lyrics and artist too, to no avail. Here's they lyrics as I remember them and sang to my kids for the past 30 years, I rememberd every lyric, except last ones that captain Packrat provided! I still would like to hear a version of the original some day.

Oh The radio said that you better look out, cause here come the little green men,
And if they land in your back yard then you better not let'm in.

Well I just ignored my radio and stepped out on the lawn,
And there was a couple of little green men, they were doin it arm in arm.
Sing'in, hi dilidilum... hi dilidilum... hi dilidilum... hi dilidilum-lum.

Well I watched them for an hour or two and then they discoverd me,
And one of the men said double-eck, double-oh and double-oh, figero Gee,
Which means take me to your leader boy I'll tell you any thing,
You see up on the moon where we dont have jive, so we come down to earth to swing.

And through every US radio station, the little green men spoke to our nation, then we caught a translation of the funny little tune,
Saying, "See ya' later, alligator. Plant ya' now and dig ya' later." Up went the itty-bitty escalator and they flew back to the moon.

I remember only part of the song - but it was "The Little Green Man" ! Don't know who sang it. I have sung it to my 6 yr. old granddaughter since she was 1 yr. old. She loves it. But here are our lyrics (as I remember them). "I love you, I love you, said the Little Green Man. I love you, I love you, to-wit. I looovvve you said the Little Green Man, I love you, I love you, to-wit. I realize I have probably taken liberties with the lyrics but she still loves me to sing this with her! Made for great memories.

My dad, Donald Abram wrote the song. It was recorded in 1961 by George Morgan.

I finally managed to find an MP3 copy of George Morgan's The Little Green Men. I'm not sure of its copyright status, as it was created prior to the 1976 Copyright Act and may not have been renewed. Given that George Morgan passed away in 1975, it's at least a bit unlikely. If not, it would have become public domain in 1989. In any event, it's almost certainly abandonware, as I've been utterly unable to find anyone claiming to own the copyright or offering the song legitimately.

So here's a link to download the song:

I met Betty Johnson at the Friends of Old Time Radio convention in Newark, New Jersey in 1997. We talked at length about her song, "The Little Blue Man." It came out in 1958.
FYI -- the voice of the little blue man on the recording was Hugh Downs!!!

I heard the original to this on my Dad's old records. It was by a man but I don't know who.

Well The radio said well you better watch out, here come the little green men,
And if they land in your back yard then you better not let'm in.

Well I just ignored my radio and stepped out on the lawn,
And there was a couple of little green men, they were swingin' it arm in arm.
Sing'in, bodeloolop, bodeloolop, bodeloolop bum

Well I knew that I should have gone to bed when I took one look at their pointed little heads, figured any minute now I'd be dead if they caught me hangin' roun. But it seemed so far back to the stairs that I just commenced to sayin' my prayers, when I heard that funny little beat of theirs and I started to dig the sound. It went:

bodeloolop, bodeloolop, bodeloolop bum

Well they danced around for an hour or two and then they discoverd me,
And one of the men said double-eck, double-oh and double-oh, gigalo fee,
Which means take me to your leader boy I'll tell you in advance,
Now up on the moon we dont have jive, so we come down to earth to dance.

And through every US radio station, the little green men spoke to our nation, then we caught a translation of the funny little tune,
Saying, "See ya' later, alligator. Plant ya' now and dig ya' later." Up went the itty-bitty escalator and they flew back to the moon. Singin

bodeloolop, bodeloolop, bodeloolop bum

There was a cup full of them little green men dancing arm and arm. They where singin, "golli golli gooliup golli golli gooliup." I am going to eat you up."
