I remember it from earlier than 1963 because I was a little kid and it always made me sad (!!). Now it's making me crazy. Anyone shed any light? |

It is not really any kind of folk music -- it is representative of the saccharine featureless stuff that used to be spread all over the Hit Parade before Bill Haley showed up!! :>) Cf "Doggy In the Window", "Love fForever True", "Anastasia", and so on. I have both songs on 45 RPM records, but they are in storage. The latter is about aliens visiting the earth. I can only remember a piece of the lyrics. Google has been less than helpful. Don't know who sang it. I have sung it to my 6 yr. old granddaughter since she was 1 yr. old. She loves it. But here are our lyrics (as I remember them). I'm not sure of its copyright status, as it was created prior to the 1976 Copyright Act and may not have been renewed. Given that George Morgan passed away in 1975, it's at least a bit unlikely. If not, it would have become public domain in 1989. In any event, it's almost certainly abandonware, as I've been utterly unable to find anyone claiming to own the copyright or offering the song legitimately.
