08 Apr 02 - 05:42 PM (#685728) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Run Boy Run (Samson song) From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) A Negro song, apparently from the same stable as "Run, Nigger, Run" and Run, Sinner, Run." The origin of these songs goes back to the 1840s-1850s. The Traditional Ballad Index lists an alternate title as "Run, Boy, Run," But I haven't found words to it in the few references that I have. I haven't heard the "Run,..." tune used for Samson. |

Slavery-Era Song, 'Run, ======, Run'
Lyr req: Run, Nigger; Run (previous thread to the above)
Incidentally, there's a popular song "Run Samson Run" (by Neil Sedaka), whose chorus is:
Oh, run Samson run, Delilah's on her way ~Masato

09 Apr 02 - 04:13 PM (#686472) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Run Boy Run (Samson song) From: GUEST,Amy I called my mom, she's the one I remember singing this. I guess I should have done that in the first place. :) She said it's a song by the Lowell Lundstrom Singers, a gospel group. She still has the record so next time I go home I'll get more info about it. |
09 Apr 02 - 04:48 PM (#686511) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Run Boy Run (Samson song) From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Thanks, Amy. I found a note that Ben Jacklin, former lead singer with that group, is still working. These singers seem to have disbanded. I could find no reference to their recordings. I would really appreciate the words and any notes on the record about the song's author. It fits in with gospel that WYSIWYG also is interested in and a whole group of "Run" songs that started out in slavery times. I hope that this request is not too troublesome. |

Run Samson run, Delilah's gonna get you
Delilah was paid by the Philistines to find what made him strong
Run Samson run, Delilah's gonna get you
They cut his hair while he was a sleepin' and he never heard a sound
Now listen boy if you been lookin at a girl with pretty eyes
Run boy run, Delilah's gonna get you

I forgot to get the info off the album Dicho, but it basically talked about Lowell's conversion. |

As recorded by Neil Sedaka, 1961. 1. In the Bible—one thousand years B. C., There's a story—of ancient history, 'Bout a fella—who was strong as he could be, Till he met a cheatin' gal who brought him tragedy. Oh— CHORUS: Run, Samson, run! Delilah's on her way. Run, Samson, run! You ain't got time to stay Run, Samson, run! On your mark! You better start! I'd sooner trust a hungry lion than a gal with a cheatin' heart. 2. She was a demon (was a demon), a devil in disguise. He was taken (he was taken) by the angel in her eyes. That lady barber (lady barber) was very well equipped. You can bet your bottom dollar he was gonna get clipped. Oh—CHORUS 3. Oh, Delilah (oh, Delilah) made Sammy's life a sin, And he perished (and he perished) when the roof fell in. There's a moral (there's a moral) so listen to me, pal: There's a little of Delilah in each and every gal. So—CHORUS [It's available on several "Greatest Hits"-type albums.] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqtVwXW9y6Q |

This song was written by Pastor/Evangelist, Bible college president, Lowell Lundstrom. The Lundstrom Team traveled all over the U.S.A. for many years singing and playing their guitars for the glory of God. I love this song and sang it a prayer meeting last night in Pflugerville, Texas. Also, sung Lowell's song, "Be Nice to the Little Guy". Lowell wrote more than 600 gospel songs. He went to be with the Lord during the year 2012. Met him about three time in the Dallas area. |
