Anybody have more info about this song? This all I can remember.

Run boy run, Delilah's gonna get you
Run boy run, she's gonna cut your hair
Run boy run, you're gonna meet your maker
You're gonna go to prison and die down there.

A Negro song, apparently from the same stable as "Run, Nigger, Run" and Run, Sinner, Run." The origin of these songs goes back to the 1840s-1850s. The Traditional Ballad Index lists an alternate title as "Run, Boy, Run," But I haven't found words to it in the few references that I have. I haven't heard the "Run,..." tune used for Samson.

Haven't found the one asked for either, but related songs are at previous long threads:

Slavery-Era Song, 'Run, ======, Run'

Lyr req: Run, Nigger; Run (previous thread to the above)

Incidentally, there's a popular song "Run Samson Run" (by Neil Sedaka), whose chorus is:

Oh, run Samson run, Delilah's on her way
Run Samson run, you ain't got time to stay
Run Samson run, on your mark you better start
I'd rather trust a hungry lion than a gal with a cheatin heart

I called my mom, she's the one I remember singing this. I guess I should have done that in the first place. :)

She said it's a song by the Lowell Lundstrom Singers, a gospel group. She still has the record so next time I go home I'll get more info about it.

Thanks, Amy. I found a note that Ben Jacklin, former lead singer with that group, is still working. These singers seem to have disbanded. I could find no reference to their recordings. I would really appreciate the words and any notes on the record about the song's author. It fits in with gospel that WYSIWYG also is interested in and a whole group of "Run" songs that started out in slavery times. I hope that this request is not too troublesome.

Not at all Dicho, I'm interested too. I'll post the info when I get it.

RUN, SAMSON, RUN
(Lowell Lundstrom)

Delilah was a long haired pretty thing with flashing dark brown eyes
And Samson was the servant of the living God who never was to compromise
He met her in a hotel one day the love was sweet to him
But the Lord saw it all and it grieved his heart for Samson fell in sin

Run Samson run, Delilah's gonna get you
Run Samson run, she's gonna cut your hair
Run Samson run, you're gonna loser your power
And you're gonna go to prison and die down there

Delilah was paid by the Philistines to find what made him strong
Three times she tricked and tried to betray the man who wore his hair so long
She begged and pleaded until one day his soul could stand no more
Then he said if they cut my hair I'll be weak for it means I am the Lord's

Run Samson run, Delilah's gonna get you
Run Samson run, she's gonna cut your hair
Run Samson run, you're gonna loser your power
And you're gonna go to prison and die down there

They cut his hair while he was a sleepin' and he never heard a sound
When he awakened his knees started shakin' as they dragged him to the ground
The Philistines put out his eyes and bound him with their chains
He became a slave in the prison house and died down there in shame

Now listen boy if you been lookin at a girl with pretty eyes
Make sure she loves the Lord with all her heart and never compromise
For a worldly girl will take your life and use it for her gain
Don't trust her or you'll end up with the fools who are in chains

Run boy run, Delilah's gonna get you
Run boy run, she's gonna cut your hair
Run boy run, you're gonna loser your power
And you're gonna go to prison and die down there

I forgot to get the info off the album Dicho, but it basically talked about Lowell's conversion.

My transcription from Spotify:

RUN SAMSON RUN
Written by Howard Greenfield & Neil Sedaka, ©1961.
As recorded by Neil Sedaka, 1961.

1. In the Bible—one thousand years B. C.,
There's a story—of ancient history,
'Bout a fella—who was strong as he could be,
Till he met a cheatin' gal who brought him tragedy. Oh—

CHORUS: Run, Samson, run! Delilah's on her way.
Run, Samson, run! You ain't got time to stay
Run, Samson, run! On your mark! You better start!
I'd sooner trust a hungry lion than a gal with a cheatin' heart.

2. She was a demon (was a demon), a devil in disguise.
He was taken (he was taken) by the angel in her eyes.
That lady barber (lady barber) was very well equipped.
You can bet your bottom dollar he was gonna get clipped. Oh—CHORUS

3. Oh, Delilah (oh, Delilah) made Sammy's life a sin,
And he perished (and he perished) when the roof fell in.
There's a moral (there's a moral) so listen to me, pal:
There's a little of Delilah in each and every gal. So—CHORUS

[It's available on several "Greatest Hits"-type albums.]

RUN SAMSON RUN
As recorded by Lowell Lundstrom.

1. Delilah was a dark-haired pretty thing with flashing dark brown eyes,
And Samson was a servant of the living God who never was to compromise.
He met her in a little town one day; her love was sweet to him,
But the Lord saw it all and it grieved His heart for Samson fell in sin.
Samson fell in sin.

CHORUS: Run, Samson, run; Delilah's gonna get you.
Run, Samson, run; she's gonna cut your hair.
Run, Samson, run; you're gonna lose your power.
You're gonna go to prison and die down there.
You're gonna go to prison and die down there.

2. Delilah was paid by the Philistines to find what made him strong.
Three times she tricked and tried to betray the man who wore his hair so long.
She begged and pleaded until one day his soul could stand no more.
Then he said: "If you cut my hair, I'll be weak, for it means I am the Lord's.
It means I am the Lord's."

3. They cut his hair while he was a-sleeping and he never heard a sound,
When he awakened, his knees started shakin' as they dragged him to the ground.
The Philistines put out his eyes and bound him with their chains.
He became a slave in the prison house and died down there in shame.
Died down there in shame.

4. Now listen, boy: if you've been looking at a girl with pretty eyes,
Make sure she loves the Lord with all her heart and never compromise,
For a worldly girl will take your life and use it for her gain.
Don't trust her or you'll end up with the fools who are in chains,
The fools who are in chains.

Just posted the song on my Facebook page "Gary Lynn Cook". This song was written by Pastor/Evangelist, Bible college president, Lowell Lundstrom. The Lundstrom Team traveled all over the U.S.A. for many years singing and playing their guitars for the glory of God. I love this song and sang it a prayer meeting last night in Pflugerville, Texas. Also, sung Lowell's song, "Be Nice to the Little Guy". Lowell wrote more than 600 gospel songs. He went to be with the Lord during the year 2012. Met him about three time in the Dallas area.
