Newcastleton Festival

Just read the recent thread about a Yorkshire gathering in May; it sounds like fun and I would hope to get there. I just thought I would mention Newcastleton for those who don't know about it. Something like 8 to 10 sessions running simultaneously in the village - almost all music with a bit of song. Singarounds on Saturday night (and Friday as well I believe) and dances in the evenings (sessions still continue. (The sessions are mainly Irish, some Scottish with some bluegrass and blues thrown in if you are lucky.)

Also competitions for singing and instrumental music for all ages (These are almost all of Scottish music I think)

The festival this year is the 5th to 8th July. Camping is available - almost mandatory.

Newcastleton is about 30 minutes drive North of Carlisle off the A7 and it is possible to go by public transport if you get the times right and don't mind leaving on Monday.

Great fun and well worth a visit if you like your festivals session orientated.

A good festival, spoilt however by the presence of a numbers of youths who seemed hell bent on disregarding anyone elses pleasure. The last time I went 2 years ago I packed my tent at 4 in the morning and went home. If you do go, don't camp by the river, the midges have attitude too!
