It strikes me that there must be a template somewhere for just that purpose. It sure would be better than reinventing the wheel. You know, the basic stuff. Band name, contact information, performance schedule, a way to listen to clips or whole tunes, a way to order CDs, etc. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? Al |

It needs php and mysql, and still has some bugs. I'll be trying out PostNuke, myself, once I get php and mysql working on my host. Mostly because I want a bit more of a community site than just a band site. The only thing is, mysql database access sometimes isn't cheap, depending on your host. I really think it's worth it, though, because it's SOOO easy to update the information on a site if you use php and mysql. |

So you make a tiny change in the database, and everything on your site will update, like magic. It is usually combined with a bit of html to make things look pretty. You can even make a php page that will add info into the database, making it VERY easy to update the site with news, etc. mysql is a database, sort of like M$Access, but open source, and much better for website use than M$Access. The two things I listed are entire sets of php pages and mysql tables that you can use to make a site without having to know any of the actual coding stuff. Bandwebsite - this one is buggy, though, and I don't know how secure it is. Haven't actually tried it myself. PostNuke - looks to be pretty good so far. I'm having a slight problem with accessing the database, but it seems to be a problem with my host, not PostNuke, as I get the same problem when trying to access it at all. Hope that helps. |

You can build a rudimentary website and post whole albums of material if you choose. We use it as a link from our main site where (because it was free) we couldn't carry sound files.
