"Let's do it" (let's fall in love)

"The dutch in old Amsterdam do it,
Not to mention the Finns,
Girls in Siam do it,
Think of Siamese twins!"

Anyone remember the Oranjeboom TV advert that put words to the theme tune for Van der Valk? If memory serves me correctly it had some dreadful puns in -

Just look here lend an ear (cue picture of Van Gogh
You'll appreciate this beer
Its not run of the Mill, I'd say (Goaning yet???)
This is such, ask my old Dutch (Thowing things at the TV?)
It can't be praised to much.
Get Tu-lips around a pint today (Arrrggghhh - runs off screaming)

What was the tune called btw? I think it is an old one and only borrowed for the TV.

Cheers and dank u vell.

The Van der Valk theme was called "Eye Level" and recorded by The Simon Park Orchestra.
Got to No.1 in the U.K. charts in Sept. '73

Ah - I remember now. I guess it was not copied from an earlier work then - Old memory playing erm, thingies, y'know, whatsits, again...;-)

To add to the original list and get back on thread, hows about -

Roll-up Alabama Roll-up or
Little pot stove or
Fields of Porn or, if you want to be REALLY silly

Go to one of the famous museums in Amsterdam. Turn on a loud music machine with flashing lights and then start to play mouth organ. Then you could say...

I played my harp in Ann Franks disco.

Well, what do you expect late on Sunday;-)

Cheers

Are you just looking for songs about the Netherlands and Dutch people, or do you want any actual Dutch folk songs?

Here's a link that appears to have quite a few Dutch folk songs (in Dutch!), just in case you want any of those...

Nederlandse volksliederen en -liedjes

The Dutchman by Michael Smith. I don't know if it is the same one sighted by Rich and Dee. But as we know many songs can have the same title.

thanks u awl - there's some great "ideas" coming up - Dutch songs in their native language? - emmm! I think learning 1.5 hrs of new songs is going to be bad enough!!! let alone learning a new language - and if we bluff it, a Flying (or maybe Frying as it's in a restaurant!) Dutchman would be in the audience.....

Dave the Gnome - any chance of getting to Singleton Day of Dance this year?? or are you off to Liverpool - cycling, running whatever on the 15th July .........,

Pete

Your Tiny Hand is Friesian
Oh well! It would not be funny if you said Friesland would it? I believe the Frieslanders can be the butt of Dutch jokes as they are a small corner, culurally and dialectically distinct and prefer not to be called Dutch, though they do acknowledge Netherlands, and maybe Benelux.

The Frieslanders are supposed to be very staid. It is said that they remove the rooster from the hen run in preparation for tha Sabbath.

Elvis Costello's 'New Amsterdam'

and, of course, 'Vincent' (It is about a Dutchman...)

Any Loyalists out there to suggest a few songs about Good King Billy?? (who was anawr bleddy Dutchman)
'We are the Billy Boys' might be a bit too strong for those more used to Edam, Gouda & that
Heineken piddle :->
