I live near Rumson, NJ where Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi live. I wonder if S.Young is from there too or maybe just visited. Love, Annamill |
15 Apr 02 - 05:59 PM (#690774) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Bridges Road From: Jim the Bart Steve Young is a Southern boy; doubtful that it's the same Seven Bridges Road, Annamill, but you never know. The first version I heard of this was by Ian Matthews (Matthews Southern Comfort); the Eagles borrowed that arrangement note for note. And, of course, the inimitable Mr. Young has done it impeccably at least twice on different recordings. A very mystical song in any of it's metamorphoses. |

15 Nov 22 - 12:04 PM (#4157698) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Seven Bridges Road From: GUEST,Jerome Clark The late Steve Young, whose parents were Georgia sharecroppers, wrote a host of memorable songs in a country-folk vein, with a voice that would have served him well if he had elected to be a blue-eyed soul singer. I'm surprised that only one contributor to this thread besides me knows his name. "Seven Bridges Road" is an early number from his rich catalog, and I've yet to hear a version that so much as approaches his. He was also a notable interpreter of others' songs, from Bob Dylan to Utah Phillips to Johnny Horton to Townes Van Zandt to tradition. As often as not, his interpretations were improvements on the originals. An English roots-reissue label, Ace, released "Seven Bridges Road: The Complete Recordings" in 2017. It's a place to start and to discover gems such as "Long Way to Hollywood," "Many Rivers," and "Montgomery in the Rain." |
