Can you give us a little more information? Where did you hear it? Can you quote anything from it?

It is for a friend Dennis Ward, who used to sing it but lost the words. It is a Timmy Daniels song he said. I will ask him for some lines from it on Wed. evening. He does not have a computer.

I am Long Tom, the Old Yorkshire Gamekeeper
I am just 7 feet tall
But if I want some game for my supper
I'm Long Tom the poacher and all.

Back when I knew Dennis we would always argue between Yorkshire and Cornwall in the first line as I remember it as being the old Cornish Gamekeeper which fits in with the local story of the Long Tom Standing stone who was a gamekeeper come poacher who was turned to stone by the Devil, Old Nick himself!

Google Book Search indicates that the song might be mentioned in:

English Dance and Song: Volume 31
English Folk Dance and Song Society – 1969

Folk Song Index: A Comprehensive Guide to the Florence E. Brunnings Collection
Florence E. Brunnings - 1981

It was from Tommy Daniel's pamphlet as described in the notes for another of his songs on the Yorkshire Garland site: Old Jim Slack's Grey Horse.

Long Tom is not there, but maybe Steve Gardham has the words.

(I think there is also a recording in the Leeds archive)

Considering the request was from 19 years ago, if the desire is still there I'll have a look and post. If not one source I will have the other, probably both.

I'm curious to see this thread revived after 10-20 years; I looked into it since I remember Dennis singing this song more than 45 years ago. Dennis Ward "the demon barber of Harrogate"! was part of the folk scene there in the 60's and 70's. He died a few years ago.
