Lyr Req: Liberty Of The Cross

From: GUEST,SH

I heard this song and wrote down some of the words that I could make out. It is a song that was sung at a Christian Rally shortly after the September 11th Tragedy. It started out with some words about the Statue Of Liberty, and how proud I am to be an American. It was very hard to catch the words, but a person could tell it was a very touching song. The first part, and last part of the song were confusing to try to pick out the words because there were 4 singers all singing it together. I did however get a small portion of the song when there was just one singer singing. I will now enclose the words that I was able to make out.

On lonely Golgotha, stands a cross
which my Lord raised to the sky
and all who kneel there, lives forever
and all the saved can testify.

I'm so glad to be called, a Christian
to be named with the Lamb of the Cross
the Statue liberates the ...
So the Cross liberates the soul

The Cross is my Statue of Liberty,

I hope that someone knows what the other words are to this song and what the correct name was. It was from what I did make out a very touching song. Thanks for whatever help you can be.

SH

It's here and also at a number of other places on the web. I have to admit that I can't agree with you on the lyrics. The make me shudder.

Cheers!

I found 10 copies of this song on the Internet. Eight of them had “for you and me” on line 2. I suspect “for you and I” was original, since it rhymes. I don’t plan to sing it, but it’s an interesting historical artifact.

STATUE OF LIBERTY
(Neil Enloe)

In New York harbor stands a lady with a torch raised to the sky.
And all who see her know she stands for liberty for you and I.

I'm so proud to be called an American, to be named with the brave and the free.
I will honor our flag and our trust in God and the Statue of Liberty.

On lonely Golgotha stood a cross with my Lord raised to the sky,
And all who kneel there live forever, as all the saved can testify.

I'm so glad to be called a Christian, to be named with the ransomed and whole.
As the statue liberates the citizen, so the cross liberates the soul.

Oh, the cross is my Statue of Liberty. It was there that my soul was set free.
Unashamed I'll proclaim that a rugged cross is my Statue of Liberty.
