Update on Winters Wages

Subject: Update on Winters Wages
From: Peter Kasin

Winters Wages asked me to pass along his latest news to the Mudcat community. As many of you know, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma about a year and a half ago, and has been undergoing chemo therapy off and on. For awhile the treatments were succeeding in shrinking tumors, eradicating most of them. Lately, though, he is not responding to treatments, and new tumors are appearing. He is scheduled for bone marrow surgery at the end of May or the first week in June. He is in the hospital under isolation until the surgery, and is scheduled to be released in July if all goes well.

Winters Wages is Lloyd (he's fine with using his name here), a warm guy with an easy laugh, a great friend to many, and a fine chantey singer and melodeon player. Please send good wishes and light candles for him. I know he will be moved by your support.

Hey Lloyd --

Was thinking of you the other day and wondered how things were going.

All good wishes and positive thoughts for you, Mudcat friend. Candles? Sure, I'll light some now. If there's anything you need, or want, ask chanteyranger to post it here.

Thanks, chanteyranger, for the update.

Mary

HeyaLloyd, thansk for asking chanteyranger to give us an update and thanks to chanteyranger for doing so. I am sorry to hear of this and will add you to my list, too.

In the meantime, I remember when Barry Finn was in the hospital for so long, waiting for a new liver. Someone posted the addy for the hospital, so we were able to send him cards, CDs, etc. Chanteyranger, if this is okay with Lloyd, would you mind letting us know, either here, or by PM? Thanks!

Lloyd, may you find strength and healing in all ways through the knowledge and skill of the doctors and through the love and support of your family and friends, esp. your Mudcat friends.

Hi, Lloyd - I always get a kick out of singing with you (well, the two times I did it). I've missed you. I hope you get better.

I would like the hospital address too. Lloyd is a Mudcat treasure, one of the quieter variety. He remains in my prayers.

Sinsull, it couldn't be said better.....That pretty well sums up WW. SStay the course and we'll all be sending you our best thoughts.

And Lloyd, at least Joe sang with you....When he stopped at my house I guess he figured I was a lousy singer with a lousy voice because he never asked!   Of course he was right so, uh.......................Anyway, get better so he has someone great to sing with, huh?

One way or another your good wishes will get to him. I'll see if the address can be released. Lloyd said that he would be out of direct contact with people due to post-9/11 security measures at the hospital, so it looks like visits won't be possible. He said further updates will be gotten by contacting the sheriff's department where he works. I will contact both hospital and sheriff's departments and see where cards and letters can be sent. Thanks, everyone.

Best,

chanteyranger

Dear Folks: Thanks so much for the kind thoughts and encouragement. My address will be Alta Bates Summit Medical Center..2450 Ashby Ave, Berkeley, CA 94705..I really think it would be easier though to write to my department...san Francisco Sheriff's Department #1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Pl. Room 456, San Francisco, CA 94102-4676. They will be in contact with me continously. It will be faster for me to receive the mail and not a burden on hospital staff. The target date is in mid June. I have a tough 6 months ahead of me but with Gods help I will be ok. Again thanks so much...You are all very kind. Light every candle, light every runway light everyone get that Mo Jo working cause I will need it all. Warm Regards Lloyd Jones Jr. Winters Wages

Hi Folks: Just went for another CT scan yesterday and chemo today. Scan shows incresed node activity but cell count still up. Started Neupogen (large doses) this eve. do it for five days..BUT on Monday Chest line input..Tuesday Stem cell extraction for five days. If my cells are strong enough...They purge them and used them during the transplant. This is set for about three weeks from now if all goes well. Im sorry for all the confusion Chanteyranger, but a lot of it is due to doctors and their changes. Mary...I received your one card I am touched and thank you. I understand there are many but have not seen them as I have been off work. Departmental staff will take me Monday for the line placement and will bring me my mail. Home address is fine Chanteyranger. Im still hanging in there..I can still dress myself in the mornings (**BG) Radiation will zapp a little bit of my memory I am told..."how long do I boil a three min egg**BG) I can see it now. already a lot of the chemo brain is active. I forget where I park my truck. The doctor advised me to take a two week vacation before we start all this. So as a result..I just returned form Mystic Seaport, Prov town R.I. and Ol Bean Town I was completely taken with Mystic. Came home two days ago for my tests. Sooooo Thats the news from here. You all take care..Hi to Rick and Heather, and Hi to all I thank you all for your concern and prayers Warmest Regards Lloyd Jones-Jr. Winters Wages

Great news, Lloyd. Force yourself to eat something. Any cravings? Chocolate? Cake? Cookies? Lasagna? Just name it and you will have enough for an army.

Is that three month segregation VANITY speaking or doctor's orders? We love you with or without hair.

Stay positive.
