Tech: Instruments and Summer Humidity

Subject: Help: Instruments and Summer Humidity
From: JenEllen

I went back looking through threads, and could only find information regarding winter use of Dampits and such.....Is there any call for humidifying in the summer in dry climates? I now live in the rain-shadow of the Cascades, and it's pretty dry here year round. I have a waterpot on the woodstove during the winter and that keeps the humidity up, but for the life of the guitar, should I also try to boost the humidity in the summer? Somewhere in the threads, it was mentioned that a range of 30-40% was adequate? Is that reasonable? Do different woods require different ranges, or is there just a neutral to shoot for? The piano didn't make the move --no one brave enough to try and bring it up the hill-- but there is a fiddle and a guitar that I am concerned about Any thoughts are appreciated.
