BS: Authentic Indian Name

From: Leeder

A propos of the thread on Blues Names, you can also get an Authentic Indian Name, from a CBC radio comedy program, "The Dead Dog Café". Their website is

http://www.radio.cbc.ca/programs/deaddog/ .

The show is a tad controversial. I see it as slyly poking fun at Caucasian attitudes towards First Nations people, or First Nations people making fun of themselves, but some people see it as racist. Anybody else got an opinion? Anyway, I went so far as to get an Authentic Indian Name for myself.

Humor and rascism are both often in the eye and ear of the beholder. I liked the site until I tried the name generator and found that I am:

George Predigested Duckling

Stephen Flinty Bluejay or Joshua Puffy Jumper. I suppose my eyes might have a flinty sort of gleam in them. And "puffy" is highly uncomplimentary (however true it might be). Funny!

And when I put "NightWing in, I got Benjamin Baroque Chicken. *LOL*

Love the humour on that site! First reaction to this thread was negative, until I visited the site.

So, I am married to Jody Corrupt Armadillo! And, he is married to (first and last name) Jennifer Concave Llama; or, (first, middle, and last) Glynis Multipurpose Chicken (ewww!); or, (katlaughing) Doris Antique Girdle! LOL!

Geeziz.....What is it with the ducks?   I tried a catspaw and got Joseph Agricultural Duck. What's the deal here anyway? George Predigested Duckling is completely fowl, well disgusting anyway, and now an Agricultural Duck? What the hell would that be?

A non-industrial duck, obviously! (Old MacDonald's duck from the song, I guess)

But truth is stranger than fiction... and frictionless buffaloes... When I was in art school, there was a Native American film student there by the name of Edgar Heap of Birds. Honest!

Using my first name with mother's maiden name worked out pretty well... Annie Interesting Eagle. The alter ego (evil twin?) of that one, using my middle name with my mother's maiden name, is Mabel Neon Dodobird.

As long as we're spinning the wheel, I figured I should look up Pat Sajak (Saul Spiked Chincilla) and Vanna White (Gwendolyn Wingtip Weasel). Your results may vary!

Oh, and despite the fact that he's a Republican, President George W. Bush comes up as Otto Knobby Donkey. Laura Bush, in contrast to her outward appearance, is really Frances Quirky Radical!

Dicho: Yeah, I tried the name of my old classmate, mentioned above (Edgar Heap of Birds) and got "Jeremiah Heinous Fireweed".... no improvement there!

Nobody gave ol' Edgar a hard time about his name, though. No one would dare. He was BIG, about as broad as he was tall, didn't talk much and never smiled. He was what I'd expect the "Boy named Sue" to look like ("My name is Sue! How do you do! Now you're gonna die!!!").

Well, I guess AINs have been given the seal of approval from this bunch! No negative comments on the show in general, either.

My wife Marge is Eileen Zealous Singer.

My son Murray is Norman Dismal Singer.

We discovered the show while driving across Canada, one summer when it was on every day in reruns. We listened to it day after day, and it joined History Bites and The Iron Chef on the list of cult radio and TV shows that Murray (er, Norman) and I share.

If you like this kind of stuff, and don't know those shows, you might check www.ironchef.com (unofficial website with links to official ones) and www.historybites.com for availability in your area.

The only way to get your true "Indian" name is to be named by a true "Indian". My Native Brother from the Four Winds Reserve of Bouctouche, New Brunswick thought long and hard before he gave me my name, of which I am so proud. We worked on several construction sites and he was witness to my wise and sage ability to move money, men and machinery on time and on budget, while attending to the smallest of details, ensuring that the finished project would meet the exacting details of my client : "Big White Prick." They call me "Prick" for short.... a feather in my cap, I'd say.

Not sure about it... always hated the name Susan, never liked cigarettes.... Semisweet I can cope with.

It's a whole lot better than Annie Bovine Buffalo which seems a bit excessive on the cow front but several people who post here might not be so doubtful.

Now, you'd think they would've programmed the "Authentic Indian Name Generator" so that it would come up with the names of the characters on the Dead Dog Café program when the cast members' names were typed into the field.... BUT NO!!!!!

Floyd Favel (who plays Jasper Friendly Bear) has the Authentic Indian Name of "Aaron Demure Bluejay"!

Likewise, Edna Rain (who plays Gracie Heavy) has the Authentic Indian Name of "Sandra Simulated Gizzard"!!!

At least Thomas King calls himself Tom King on the program, but his Authentic Indian Name is "Aaron Talking Arachnid".

It's an outrage, I tell ya! *BG*
