10 May 02 - 12:36 AM (#707904) Subject: RE: OBIT: Danny Burns From: Musicman hi y'all... Yes.. Danny Burns.. or the Wolfhounds in the '70's and recently the Ballad BAnd in Vancouver passed away monday evening after collapsing due to an anurism...... I knew Danny and played with the Ballad band on and off for about 3 years..... He was a most generous man, wonderful sense of humour and an outstanding musician. He loved his Guiness and his Irish Whiskey. Everyone here who knew him.. even for a short while, were touched by his presence. It was always a treat playing with him in the Ballad Band because you never knew what was going to happen next... Set list???? what's a set list?? He would introduce a singer without telling the singer what they were singing!!... makes for a bit of a scramble , but hey .. we had a lot of fun playing together.... He had some real groaners for jokes... but they always brought a smile...... He was a great 'front man' in the band and would always be talking to the audience...... He had a way of bringing out the best in people around him..... he will be sorely missed. Paul Evenden, Musicman |

10 May 02 - 01:45 AM (#707932) Subject: RE: OBIT: Danny Burns From: Lyrical Lady Danny had a little cottage on Mayne Island.. his little piece of Ireland he called it. He would retreat there, with his dogs, after his busy week in Vancouver. Danny embraced the island community . Frequently he would arrive for the weekend, with his whole band in tow and play for dances, church fairs and benefits. He surrounded himself with wonderful people and was a loyal friend. All my life I had wanted to sing with a band and Danny made that dream come true for me. He was my biggest fan and encouraged me no end. Danny showed me the light at the end of many dark tunnels. Danny had a magic about him... I nicknamed him the "Little Dictator" because he could get anybody to do anything for him when it came to playing music ... BUT what Danny gave in return was ten fold...He's gone now and he's taken with him hundreds of songs and melodies but we are left with the stories and what stories they are! I love you Donal .... keep the session going 'til we all get there! Barb |
