09 May 02 - 10:04 PM (#707826) Subject: RE: Not in my name From: catspaw49 John writes some great stuff doesn't he as well as being a top trad performer. Carol, this one is written from "god's viewpoint" and you can read some of John's comments on 9-11 as well as get the lyrics and some background on this page of his website. There are a few others there as well. Spaw |
09 May 02 - 10:20 PM (#707839) Subject: RE: Not in my name From: Bobert Thanks for the link Spawzer and thanks for the validation, John... Ol' Bobert been stranded over on the "Conscription" thread holed up in the Peace Alamo for the last three days without and reinforcments fighting off those who think of only military solutions. But, hey, might have brought a couple of folks a few feet closer to loolking at other alternatives for solving problems... (Fingers crossed...) |

09 May 02 - 10:55 PM (#707854) Subject: Lyr Add: NOT IN MY NAME (John McCutcheon) From: catspaw49 NOT IN MY NAME Words & music by John McCutcheon As recorded by John McCutcheon on "The Greatest Story Never Told" (2000) See the plane in the distance See the flame in the sky See the young ones running for cover The old ones wondering why They tell us that the world is a dangerous place We live in a terrible time But in Hiroshima, New York or in Baghdad It's the innocent who die for the crime CHORUS: Not in my name Not in my name Not in my name Not in my name Witnesses watch through the window Their hearts locked in horror and pain At the man lying strapped to a gurney As the poison is pumped through his veins And I'm wondering who are the prisoners Who holds the lock and the key Who has the power over life, over death When will we finally be free? CHORUS TWICE BRIDGE: We stray and we stumble in seeking the truth And wonder why it's so hard to find But an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth Leaves the whole world hungry and blind Through the ages I have watched all your holy wars Your jihads, your Crusades I have been used as inspiration, I've been used as an excuse For the murder and the misery you've made I thought I made it clear in the Bible In the Torah and in the Koran What is it in my teaching about loving your enemies That you people don't understand? CHORUS 5x AND FADE ©2001 John McCutcheon/Appalsongs (ASCAP) Spaw |

10 May 02 - 04:01 PM (#708421) Subject: RE: Not in my name (John McCutcheon) From: InOBU Brilliant song! I have been doing a wee bit of work for the minority communities of Bangladesh, and so, I have not had a lot of time to keep up with things on the cat. But after several weeks of storries of murder of Hindus and Budhists, and heart breaking storries of public mass rape - even of children to drive the minority indiginous community out of Bangladesh, it is good to see a song which reinforces a faith in humanity. My hat's off to John... Larry |
