10 May 02 - 04:08 PM (#708426) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (Not folk) traffic lights & Van goghs From: Dave the Gnome Guest - your opinion matters because??? Never mind the 'Non Folk' in the title John! This scottish band (Del Amitri) have done more for bringing folk music into mainstream than a lot of other so called folk bands. Have a listen to the original and tell us it is not folk! Liz - Hope you are having one of those wonderful squeeky laughs. Now prove to us how Madonna's 'Nothing really matters' or Metallica's 'Nothing else matters' became Del Amitri's 'Nothing ever happens' and I will buy you beer for a night at the next gathering!!! I reckon it must be Google's fault but I won't let you get away with that:-) Luv and Kisses Dave |

What is fact dear Guest? Please explain your last comment so we can all share. I am afraid I do not work on such high mental planes as you obviously do. Not that anyone really cares anyway but we could do with a laugh. Cheers DtG |

10 May 02 - 04:56 PM (#708454) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (Not folk) traffic lights & Van goghs From: GUEST,Jim Dave You haven't 'got to me' This site is (or, at least was) built on answering lyric requests. Personally, I found it quite amusing that Liz thought it was: 'Nothing really matters' , Ocean Colour Scene. Was in the 'hit parade' last year You yourself then commented that you wont let her 'get away with it' I provided the accurate (and useful to John) information, hence my last comment. OK? Jim |

10 May 02 - 05:07 PM (#708457) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (Not folk) traffic lights & Van goghs From: GUEST,Jim btw Dave, Is the original 'folk' because it has an acoustic guitar and an accordion? *grin* Lets not go there, eh? Jim |

10 May 02 - 08:44 PM (#708574) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (Not folk) traffic lights & Van goghs From: Dave the Gnome Thanks, Jim - and well done for letting us know who you are. I still don't understand why So Liz the Squeak, you actually are as stupid as you look! is 'accurate (and useful to John) information' but now I know that you, at least, 'find it amusing'. I consider the original 'folk' simply because it is good and tells a story btw. I find it quite interesting that your definition of folk is 'because it has an acoustic guitar and an accordion'. Does that mean that Paris cafe music is Folk? Or simply that your definition is as flawed as your views on some women??? Ah well. C'est la vie DtG |

13 May 02 - 05:09 AM (#709992) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (Not folk) traffic lights & Van goghs From: GUEST,Jim Dave the Genome, Just to set the record straight, my definition of 'folk' is not that it has an acoustic guitar and an accordion. I simply assumed it was yours when you considered "Nothing Ever Happens" to be a folk song. Del Amitri were, and still are primarily an electric rock band. Apologies if I misunderstood. However, I don't think I did. In the Matchstick [sic] Men thread you seem to consider 'Brian and Michael' to be folkies. Why? Surely not the acoustic guitar??? You definition of "it's folk if it's good and tells a story" is so laughably pathetic that I won't even bother responding. Take care and have a nice day Jim |

13 May 02 - 07:22 AM (#710079) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (Not folk) traffic lights & Van goghs From: Dave the Gnome Ooooh - having a go at two people at once now are we? Bit ambitious isn't it. Whatever next? Real joined-up writing? Meeting people? Getting a life? I'm sure as you find my views so disinteresting you are right in not responding. Please continue to do so. But as I asked earler - your opionion matters because? I'll have my usual kind of day thank you. Easy. Enjoyable. Full of fun. Earning good money. Followed by meeting freinds at the folk club tonight. I'm sure you will have your usual kind of day as well. Try to not insult too many of your betters on the way... Cheers Dave the Gnome |

13 May 02 - 10:08 AM (#710196) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (Not folk) traffic lights & Van goghs From: Dave the Gnome I know I can get a technical consultancy job most places but do I really want to? I am pretty pissed where I am and was considering a move but would I just be changing like for like? Was my exact quote, Jim. 'Pretty Pissed' is a very slight inconvenience from my point of view. If I was really cheesed off with my job I would have changed it by now. Is that a little difficult to understand? What I was a bit pissed about btw was how little I had to do and how much I was paid for it. Hence I am only considering a move. Come on, you must be able to come up with better than that! Remember I only like to feed clever trolls when I am feeling sorry for them. You are not being very clever at the moment and you can soon loose my symapthy. Give us something worth a laugh at least and someone else may throw you a morsel to liven up your otherwise futile existance;-) BTW - I met Kevin Parrott at a Folk club sometime over the last 10 years so Brian at least was, and I think still is, a Folky. I was introduced to Iain Harvie, I think, back in the 80's where he was playing mandolin at a session somewhere. So I guess the precident for me categorising Del Amitri's 'Nothing ever happens' is a little coloured by my previous experience. Apart from the fact that it is covered very regularly at lots of folk clubs Any more gems of wisdom??? Cheers and don't call us. We'll call you. Dave the Gnome

13 May 02 - 04:47 PM (#710457) Subject: Folk enough "Nothing Ever Happens" From: Clinton Hammond It's a folk song in MY book as well... I can think of a lot of 'electric rock' bands that have written some really cool folk-songs as well... But if you don't wanna count it as such, that's yer call.. just don't expect me to agree... ;-)

If it is folk, how can you prove it? I reckon it probably is. its a protest against a futile 9 till 5 existence, and capitalism, not sure who wrote it, but it's a good song. |
