I'd like to introduce you to some of the most amazing traditional folk combined with some of the most inspired original writing I have ever heard. The band is out of Philadelphia, PA (USA). They play mostly around the mid-Atlantic area. If you're close enough to see them, I highly recomend it. Scott Robinson, the artisitc director, is truly a visionary with his blend of the old and the new. If you're not close enough to get to see them, I can find their URL for those that might want to get a CD. I own 2, and they are well worth the price. Considering all the threads here of late on the Middle East, I thought this especially poignant (a message from the inside cover of their CD entitled "When We Remembered You"): "For Centuries, the three great "peoples of the book" - Jews, Christians, and Muslims - have revered the earthly City of Jerusalem as a symbol of the Heavenly City. Weaving together the music, prayers and liturgies of all three faiths, composer Scott Robinson has created a glowing vision of the Holy City reborn as a place of faith and hope for all." I think music has a place in the issues in that region. But even more importantly, the expression of the desire for peace through the medium of music belongs here at this musical community, so I thought I would share it with you all. |

LOTS of websites telling about gypsophilia/phila, the plant also known as "baby's breath" but I wasn't able to find one for this band. I did find a nice write-up about them, though, at this site. I gotta remember not bring drinkables when reading the 'Cat. On to your question, CapriUni. They *did* have a website...www.gypsophilia.com However, it bounced when I just tried it. I'll try to contact the artistic director to see if they're having some problems.

13 May 02 - 04:57 AM (#709990) Subject: RE: Gypsophilia From: DaveJ As indicated by Kat and according to my search engine (Google) and the rather battered old dictionary we have where I work (Webster's), the proper spelling of the botanical name for baby's breath is Gypsophila (minus the last "i"). I think Bert and Amos are right...Gypsophilia sounds either illegal or unhealthy. I've heard that the symptoms include a desire to wear brightly colored clothing, dance and sing around campfires, and travel from place to place making music. Hmmm... sounds like most of the folkies I know. It must be a social disease. DaveJ |
