Help: NW Folklife: Who's performing? going?

Just curious which of you 'catters are going to NW Folklife this year, either as official performers or otherwise.

(Unofficial 'performances' can include the Band Scrambles, the Seattle Song Circle Sing-along on Saturday evening [and a family sing-along at noon on Saturday], and, of course, many jam sessions.)

I'd love to be able to find other Mudcatters in Seattle, either by catching their on-stage acts or just by being able to identify you if we should be sitting next to each other.

Re the former, are any of you 'cats on the program (especially if not using your Mudcat name)?

Re the latter, any ideas?

Genie

We're doing a bit in the Maritime show, a bit in a NW Themes show with Pfaff and others and a Workshop in the Child ballads. Possibly also another bit with a Pfaff show of chorus songs. We'll be hanging out pretty much at the NorthWest Court, where the beer is, but I believe the NW Panel is in the Food Fair building and I know that the workshop is (in the Black Hole, or something akin). We'll be singing Sat night at the Perf Party and probably on the Wawona.

On Saturday I'll be at the Center House Theater Black Box 12:00-12:50pm doing a musical saw workshop. Then later that same day, 8:20-8:50pm, I'll be playing a few tunes with some musical cohorts Jack Cook and Hugh Sutton at the NW Court stage. If we don't saw ya at the workshop maybe we'll saw ya later at the NW Court stage. I have a new cd just out. Some select tasty moments from a live show that I did with the two characters metioned above, Jack and Hugh.

I'll be in the Olympic Room on Monday at 3:40 p.m. with Telynor. I might be playing accordion for some French dances on Friday night and Saturday sometime, I'm not sure.

I'll be there as a designated listener. Apparently, arrangements have been made for "Mudcat stickers" to be picked up from "Beth and Mary" at Festival Services, 3rd floor of Center House.

I'll be on the Backporch Stage at the Exhibition Hall lawn on Friday afternoon, 3:40-4:10. I'll be singing traditional Irish songs - a capella or with guitar, and with fiddle instrumentals.

Cheers, Stewart Hendrickson

Not performing this time, but Barbara and I are going to try to make it for one day at least. Look for a geezer in a black "Quickie" wheelchair with left leg on elevated leg-rest padded with a garish orange and green pillow. I often wear a Greek fisherman's cap, but that also applies to about 12,000 other people wandering around the festival. Any folk festival.

I'll be running the Band Scrambles again, for the umpteenth time. This year, members of the winning bands get a special prize: in addition to the usual ridiculous trophy, everybody in the band will get....a tree! Saturday, Sunday and Monday at five o'clock (sign up to be in a band anytime before 4:00).

As for the rumored Mudcat stickers, they're currently magnetted to my refrigerator door. If you see somebody with a gold star on their badge, that's another Mudcatter. To get yours, go to the Festival Services desk in the lobby upstairs from the Food Circus and ask for it. Beth and Mary are the honchos for that desk, and they'll both know about them. I'll keep a bunch in my pocket, so you can ask me for a sticker instead (assuming you know who I am, or you come to a Band Scramble).

Don Firth, please look for me. I want to talk to you about the archive project.

I decided to pass on this years NWFL. I need the break from the "to many people in one place" festival. But know I will miss it.

I haven't figured my schedual out yet, am I'm not performing this year (like every other year), but plan on making it down at sometime.
John, can I get a badge with a gold star? Or do I have to settle for a sticker (which is also good!)? Or better yet, how about both!

I'll be visiting my daughter in Denver, and thinking about all of you! Give my best to the Song Circle. (Well, I'm getting closer...at least I'm on the Mainland this year!)

Aloha,
Mark

Re: the stickers

I'm assuming that everybody reading this will either have a participant button as a performer or volunteer, or they'll buy at least one of the buttons that help pay for the festival. So you'll have something to stick the gold thingy onto.

It's not a special gold-star badge, it's a sticker for whatever badge or button you already have.

It's not too late to volunteer (and get a buttton). http://www.nwfolklife.org/P_F/Volun.html, or telephone 206-684-7300. Or go to the third floor of Center House during the festival and they'll sign you up for a volunteer shift.

Hey, John, is Kim Scanlon still on the Folklife staff? If so, please say hello for me. In addition to being an amazing singer and a wonderful person, Kim is a truly gifted voice teacher. She's high on the list of people and things I miss about Seattle.

Aloha,
Mark

I'll probably be there at some point but who knows when. I'll try to remember to get a gold sticker and put it on my "I © Esperanto" button, which will clue you in which Mudcatter I am if you spot me.

Good to know about some of you folks' scheduled gigs and other plans.

Art and John R., thanks so much for telling us where to get the Mudcat stickers!

John P, I'd recognize you, anyway, from Dusty Strings (and from the Mudcat Calendar--that is, if you look pretty much the same with your clothes on). ; >

John Ross, ...Oh, you're THAT John Ross! (Look forward to scrambling again. But are you gonna have any new jokes?)

evil imposters could get an array of gold stars and affix them to their buttons....

oh well, I have another suggestin for meeting and that is (I think..haven't actually seen the schedule) that at 1 p.m. Sunday Maride and Joe Martin will be in a workshop somewhere..could that be the chorus one? And at 11 a.m. on Sunday some of us will be in the NW song one downstairs from Food Circus...early to bed and early to rise and you'll be able to make that one.

anyplace to meet for dinner perhaps? Cheap of course. I used to love eating at Bloch's nearby but I think it is gone. There's always the Food Circus..not usually great food but there is a variety. Maybe after band scramble on Sunday? 6 or 6:30 or so?

Hi, I'm checking in late on this topic. I'll be at the NW Court on Sunday at 11:40 am (Crooked Mile) and then at the Maritime Heritage Center at 3:40 pm. The rest of the time, I'll either be in the beer garden (duh.)or stage managing the Back Porch Stage/Exhibition Hall Lawn.

Hey Stewart, I'm your stage manager on Friday. Any special requests?

I'll be at the Greenwood Family Sing at noon and band scramble later today and the Seattle Song Circle Sing-along from 6 to 9 tonight.

ChanteyMatt and mg, I won't be able to catch you guys at any of those Sunday AM spots you mentioned, 'cause I'm stage managing at the Center House until 3PM on Sunday and then involved in the singing at Intiman Courtyard. I did catch Stewart yesterday, though. You sounded great (as usual), Stewart.

I do want to encourage folks to support John R's band scrambles--by participating, being a judge, or just being in the audience. Today we need folks to endure that liquid sunshine to be in the audience.

Monday night in the Center House is all swing dancing, so I know I'll be there a lot (after the band scramble ends).
