20 May 02 - 07:05 PM (#714175) Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Bill D! From: catspaw49 Actually Guest, you're quite right and I'd normally make a lot of snide remarks about Bill, but just now it strikes me that every now and again I oughta' have the guts to say what I think without couching it in a joke. Bill is one of the nicest guys around and his value here is inestimable. While no one has to wonder how Bill feels about an issue, music or otherwise, he has always stated things with a combination of sincerity and good humor that is admirable and has often soldiered on through the muck and the mire which bogs most of us down. Again, I would normally say how lucky Bill is to have Rita as someone who can tolerate him, but indeed these two are blessed to have each other and nothing is better than two fine and wonderful people sharing a life together. Bill, I wish both you and Rita the very best today and everyday and thank you for steering a clear path here many times for the rest of us to follow. Yeah, I don't often follow it, but that's my problem. But I certainly respect what you say in every post and appreciate the style and class that allows the love and compassion that still comes through in your writings here. Many thanks for just being here. Happy Birthday to one of the very best!!! Spaw |

From: wysiwyg Forgot to say-- heartfelt condolences, Bill, on having attained that age where you must surrender your curmudging license, because as Spaw has pointed out, you just can't quite pull it off any longer. ~Susan (And Spaw, you better get back to ball-kicking real soon, since no one else can quite pull THAT off.) |
20 May 02 - 08:15 PM (#714229) Subject: RE: Happy Birthday, Bill D! From: Ferrara Well happy birthday from me too!!! -- Since you're bound to read this this evening.... Last Thursday was our 21st wedding anniversary as well. [Aside: May is a horrendously crowded month, because the kid's 20th birthday (I almost said 21st....) is in exactly a week. (He was born a year and a week after we were married, not a week later!)] Anyway we had a beautiful day on our anniversary, and today is another day to celebrate how lucky we've been to each find someone who tolerates us.... Bill is my best friend, as well as my husband. *BG* AND, he's taught me an awful lot about folk music although I haven't given up all of my wrongheaded non-purist ideas yet;-)

Did I hear that for this grand day you're getting the big surprise (now I hate to spoil a suprise, but this is different), back to your suprise. You get the wonderfull pleasure of paying for the all expense weekend for two at the Mystic festival. I can hear Rita in the backround saying "Bill! You are the man. It's your birthday, what the hell". All the best, see you soon. LOL, Barry |

Congratulations to you and Ferrara on your 21st aniversary and also Happy Birthday to Shadowmonk. One thing a lot of people don't know about Bill D is that on top of being as nice as he is, and a treasure trove of useful information, and just an all around Swell Guy, is the fact that he sounds almost exactly like Jimmy Stewart ;-) |

Believe it or not, I don't think Bill's seen this thread yet. This deduction is based on two clues: (1) he hasn't posted here yet, and (2) he wasn't grinning last night when he turned the computer off.

It will be great getting to Mystic for the first time and I hope to meet everyone of you during the next 40 years. (and NO one else has ever said I sound like Jimmy Stewart!)....there were a few oblique references to my similarities to Rudolph Valentino, though....*wink* ok, on to more mundane stuff...like naked Pentacostals in a Pontiac, Octopus & Flagellation, and Possum farts....
