22 May 02 - 01:00 PM (#715428) Subject: Webcasting Not Over Yet From: GUEST,Webcasting not over yet For those of you across the pond and also on this side who have not heard the news, it seems all of our petitions and letters to congresspeople actually did not some good? We'll see, when the final decision is made public. For now here's the deal: In the Matter of } Digital Performance Right in Sound } Docket No. 2000-9 CARP DTRA 1&2 Recordings and Ephemeral Recordings } ORDER On February 20, 2002, the Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel (CARP) reported its determination to the Librarian of Congress in the above-captioned proceeding. In accordance with 17 U.S.C. 802(f), the Librarian is given 90 days from date of delivery of a CARP report to review the determination and issue a decision setting forth the final royalty fee and terms of payment. However, if the Librarian rejects the CARP's determination, section 802(f) provides an additional 30 days for the Librarian to render his final determination. The Register of Copyrights recommends, and the Librarian agrees, that the CARP's determination must be rejected. A final decision will be issued no later than June 20, 2002. DATED: May 21, 2002 SO RECOMMENDED.

22 May 02 - 01:12 PM (#715434) Subject: RE: Webcasting Not Over Yet From: katlaughing Here's a bit more from my friend who has been watching this closely. There's some good suggestions of internet radio stations to listen to and support, as well. Thank, Bill, for posting this. Congratulations to everyone who helped barrage the congress and library of congress in the CARP Hearings. While yesterdays victory will be met with tough opposition from big business interests, the librarian of congress has been convinced that the rates proposed were completely out of line and threatened the USA's future in bitcasting. Remember to enjoy this victory to the tune of your favorite colorful internet station. Need suggestions or want to find a new favotite? Mike's radio world is still doing a good job with streaming links from Mike's you might want to check out some of my favorites like CYJQ-St. Johns Newfoundland (Plays only regional -mainly folk-music and has the Newfoundland story telling hour Mondays at 8pm Newfoundland time 4.5 hours advanced from Pacific) Their sister (mother) station is VOCM a radio station that came out of the Marconi repeating station at St Johns and proudly wears the Original "V" call sign. Radio Noord, Groenien Holland, is actually located on a ship off the coast and is a fabulous full service, (non english) radio station. Listed in Mike's under Netherlands. If you miss the days of real easy listening Saga Radio in Birmingham, Country Radio in Prague, Czech Republic is a real charmer..... Thanks to everyone for helping, please listen for future news on this matter, the fights not over, but at the end of the first inning the score stands bitcasters one, big business zilch! kat |

I started a new thread about four hours late- sorry about the duplication. The article I cited is worth reading, however, as it considers a number of alternatives. Maybe one of our wunderkinds can put them together. There will be a royalty fee proposal soon; just the one CARP proposal was rejected. It is one of several being considered. Congress still expects a recommendation later this year. Here's Dicho's thread referenced above. -- mudelf ;-) |
