Haruo 12 String - What do we know?

25 May 02 - 11:12 AM (#717195)
Subject: Haruo 12 String - What do we know?
From: Naemanson

Well, I've been a bad boy. I made an early trip to the dump this morning and stopped at a yard sale. In the garage I found a T. Haruo 12 String guitar for $70. The neck seems nice and straight, the action seems good and when I played it hard (as hard as I ever play) I heard no buzzing of strings. I saw no cracks in the body.

The label inside has the maker's name, T. Haruo, and a serial number and the model number, T-20-12. there are 20 frets and between the 19th and the 20th is a mother of pearl inlay with T. HARUA engraved on it.

So I bought it.

Now I'd like to know something about the guitar. My internet search located two old bulleting board messages one of which indicated the T. Haruo used to work for Yamaha but left to build guitars on his own. The guitars mentioned in the messages were both purchased in the 70's.

The family I bought the guitar from is apparently a Navy family. I believe they might have purchased the guitar while in Japan.

So, what do we know about this?

Refresh.

I do have some more information. The guitar was purchased at a Sam Goody in New York about 10 years ago. I still don't know anything about these guitars nor does it appear does anyone else.

Naemanson, a search revealed this comment on Haruo Guitars. If you click the guy's name, you can send him an e mail about his. Maybe he has some info by now.

You might PM masato and ask him if he can find anything; my guess is the real scoop is somewhere on the Web, but all written in Japanese.

Thanks guys, I'll start my Japanese lessons when I finish with Italian [Grin].

This is probably not much of a guitar to those who know guitars but I like it and that is really what it's all about.

If you think you might want to sell it, oh! let me have a shot at it. I acquired my six string in the mid eighties. I have searched and searched the web and have no more information that has been previously offered in this thread. My T Harua is made of an African hi-brid rosewood also called jacaranda and trimmed out with abalone inlays. I really get favorable comments when people hear it voiced. Even more impressive is how it feels when played. I think you have acquired a wonderful instrument and like mine will never be monetarily appreciated as well as the well known brand names. Who cares about that kind of value, If it plays and sounds good, Its a keeper to me .

I had a 6-string Haruo in the 80's and it was a wonderful instrument....The only reason I didn't keep it was I got a Martin D35..........Like Mudjack.....If it sounds good, it's it's solid,,,, no cracks or anything....It's a player........My second guitar is an Alvarez solid top and I put the sound of the Haruo as good, if not better than the Alvarez............ Here is what I have received for information on my inquiries from the people who posted to that bulletin board:

Esmond's message
Here's the message I got from my query which clears up the mystery, except where the master is now. I hope you enjoy your guitar as much as I have mine. So that's five of us so far. I've e-mailed Fred to let him know there's another lucky person in the club.

(Fred's answer to Esmond)
Here's what I've learned about the T. Haruo axes. A post on the vintage guitar site by Peter Berge was asking the same questions we are and mentioned that he heard a rumor that the builder used to work for Yamaha. I followed this up and called Yamaha, finally connecting with a guy named Ken in Hollywood, CA who has worked with Yamaha for some time. He confirmed that "Terry" Haruo was one of the best builders that Yamaha ever had and that he tried to make a go of it by himself but ultimately didn't succeed financially (where's the justice in that?). Ken told me that he also has one of Terry's axes, known for their quality and tone. So, that's about it; Ken isn't sure where Terry is now or what he's doing. We're lucky to have found what we have.

Alfred's message
as i had posted, i had heard (can't remember where) that T. Haruo guitars were made by someone who used to work for yamaha. i subsequently followed that lead and spoke with a manager who worked for yamaha guitars in hollywood, ca. he confirmed that "terry" haruo had in fact been one of yamaha's best guitar builders and had made a go at starting his own company. i'm not sure how long he lasted on his own until he encountered money/business problems. in any event, his guitars were of very high quality and i agree that you probably got a great deal. have fun with it.

Bob's message
Brett, good luck finding out anything about your Haruo, it's completely impossible. Nobody on Earth can find out anything. If I told you the extent to which I tried to find out about the guitar, you would laugh! I've contacted every major music hub in The US and elsewhere, New york, Nashville, L.A., Detroit etc. I 've contacted many people in Japan including the Japanese luthiers association. Nobody knows anything. So far, you are about the 5th person I heard of that owns one, we are all trying to find out something, anything and come up zero every time. So... good luck and if u do hear anything, please let me know. I still have mine, bought in a pawn shop in L.A. about 10 yrs. ago for $300. how much did u pay for yours? I think it's worth close to $1500, $1700 dollars. Because... it's as good as any guitar I've played that goes for that kind of money. But, you'd never get that for it if u sell it because nobody's ever heard of it. If you ever want to sell yours, please let me know. Thanx and keep me posted. – Bob
P.S. if u hear the rumor that Haruo worked for Ibanez and made a few of his own guitars, forget about it, Ibanez says... no way.

Refreshed, not because I think someone is not telling me what they know but because people need to be on the lookout for these guitars.

If you find one and it is for sale, buy it! My Haruo is one sweet guitar and the few other owners I have found all agree with me. You will not be sorry.

Sure, Martin and Guild are nice guitars but for what you pay for that name you can buy a LOT more guitar if you can divorce yourself from the brand name.

I purchased a T. Haruo 12 string guitar new in 1978 at Sam Goodys in New York for $200. It is model T-10-12 and apprently was the 13th guitar off the line (I was told that the number 13, found under the pick guard which came off many, many years ago was the maker's identifciation for this).

I still have this guitar. It is beautiful, well actioned, well toned and seems to get better with age. Never a buzz or bad note. Most definitely one of the most under-valued and under-appreciated acoustic guitars out there. I have no idea how many were manufactered, what the history of the maker is or any of that information. I just know it is a great guitar that I will always keep.

I will continue to search for more information on this brand.

Wow! You are the only person I've found with another Haruo 12. I'm curious. What is the serial number on the label in the sound hole? As I understand it the serial numbers given to instruments do not follow any set procedure. Some makers serialize all their instruments no matter what they are. Others have specific numbers for specific types of instruments.

CLICK HERE for a picture of same model Haruo 12 as Brett's.

Just judging by the headstock inlay on the guitar in the above link, I think Sam Bush has (or at least had) a Haruo 6-string D. I got to do a little backstage jamming with Sam and Bela Fleck back toward the end of the New Grass Revival days and Sam was playing what I thought was a Randy Woods guitar. I was familiar with Randy's guitars because a friend has one and the headstock inlay was very similar. When I asked Sam about the guitar he said that it was just a cheap thing he had picked up while on tour in Japan but he liked the sound so much that it had become his regular "road" guitar. If Sam's guitar isn't a Haruo, there's more than one Japanese builder using the same headstock inlay.

In response to your request, my T-10-12 12 string has serial number 57935 and the number "13" on the front under the place where the pickguard used to be. How about yours?

Have you been able to find out anything else about these guitars? I think mine just keeps getting better with age and I would never part with it at this point.

Okay Bee-dubya-ell,
You would have to post a clicky thing up there for me to go see. I bought the guitar pictured, expect delivery Wed. I need another guitar like I need another leg.
But I really have to say "Thanks" for alerting me to it. It is a good price for any 12 stg guitar. To buy off the internet is not my recomendation. I always tell folks they should listen to the guitar and hear how it voices before buying.
If it barks like a dog, I'll just have to let it go to the next " I just have to have a twelve string guitar", guy or gal.
Steve at his shop is really easy to work with. Answered any and all questions and was very quick to respond.

Here is a really belated answer to Naemanson, I got the 12 stg guitar and tried playing it for about six months. It sounded great but the extra width was more than I could deal with. So I let my neighbor have it for the same amount I had paid. She loves the 12 stg but I think she is not playing it as much as it deserves. Let's face it, guitars need our constant attention and care.
I still have my T.Harua 6 string and it has me spoiled.
Sorry about not responding way back in 04.

I have a six string model #40 that will be going up for sale as soon as I can get a value for it. Right now its between $1500-3500. You guys aren't alone in owning these. I was at another forum (http://www.guitarseminars.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000758.html) until the moderator there thought it was a ploy to sell these on ebay and shut the thread down. Funny thing is, nobody was offering to sell theirs. I'm only considering selling mine because of a neurological disease that causes me to shake violently, therefor I can no longer play.

I have a model T-30 6 string that my family gave me 27 years ago for my high school graduation. I've looked all over the web, & found little just like everyone else. I have since bought a Takamine that I've played more in recent years. I just re-strung the old girl last night, cleaned it up, and played it. Wow, it sounds great! Like everyone who has one, I will never part with it. One of my kids will probably take it to the Antiques Road Show someday. I'm very curious as to it's value.....anyone?

A luthier once told me my 12-string would go for about $700-$900. I paid $70 for it. I have the feeling you could get a Haruo guitar for pennies and once you did you'd never let go of it... which is why you can't find any out there.

It's noticeable if you look at the not very many threads around the net on Haruo guitars the number of owners who add 'and mine's not for sale'. I think you're right Naemanson, no one is letting them go. And mine's not for sale either.

Howdy all -- I thought I'd throw in my little Haruo history -- it reads much like everyone else's.... I've always wanted to find out more about its history and the craftsman that made it.

I found my Model 50 in a pawnshop in Provo, UT somewhere around 1983-ish. Think I paid $200 for it with hardshell case -- but I loved the way it sounded. Still do. (Like pretty much everyone else on this thread, it's NOT for sale!) It was WAY less than a third the price of the comparably built Martins. I think the Model 50 is basically a D-28...

A couple things that make it rather unusual are 1) it has brass nut and brass saddle, which makes it both loud and bright (as one fellow I used to play gigs with said "man, that thing really BARKS!" (in a good way of course) and 2) unlike the pictures I've seen with all the mother of pearl inlay, mine is pretty plain, except for the joint on the back. The back seems to be book-matched rosewood with an intricate multi-color wood mosaic inlay running up the seam. If I can figure out how to link a pic I will. Never seen anything like it.

This guitar has seen a lot of miles, and now my teenage son has learned to play on it. I cannot imagine what it would cost to replace it with something comparable (I keep playin' 'em and I just don't find anything that is truly comparable -- even the Martins don't have the same voice. Must be 25 years of playing it, eh?)

Best regards to all you fellow Haruo-people. And absolutely best regards to T. Haruo, wherever & whoever he may be.

Dave

I have a Model #50 Haruo that I am going to attempt to learn on. It is my mom's guitar that my dad bought for her back in the late 70's. Story is that my dad bought it from a guitar shop in San Diego for $500.

This one has the flower pot inlay and brass tuners. My mom has the original case, athough it needs to be replaced because it didn't hold up too well. The guitar however is in perfect condition and I am told it has great sound.

Nice to read about other owners. This guitar will never be for sale, but it is interesting to read about its history.

I can't answer that myself. As I said in my first post i only paid $70 for my 12-string. A friend, who is also a luthier, looked at it, played it, and suggested a selling price of $900.

Compare the guitar to new Martins. If the price is similar or lower take it, you are not getting burned.

Take an electronic tuner and tune it up. Just pick individual strings. Listen for the sweetness of the sound. If it appeals to you, go for it.

Press the strings as you would if playing it. Are they easy to hold down? Can you spread out to the frets you usually use (for those of us who do not play well that is usually only three or four frets)? If so take it.

Your best bet is to compare the guitar with other used guitars in music shops. I'm guessing this is a pretty good deal. If not you still will not regret it.

For me paying price is dependent on a lot of variables including how much I have in my wallet at the time. I really hesitated on paying $70 for the 12 but have never regretted it.

Other factors include what I have in the current stable of guitars, what music I'm playing at the time, and, yes, what my wife will say if I bring another home.

I think you need help to value the guitar. The problem is that they are literally priceless to the people who have them, in that they won't sell them but they are not a 'name' guitar so there is no real market to compare them.

If you can find someone who plays and you can trust, get them to play a few Martins and other quality guitars and note the prices, then try the Haruo. I suspect you'll find it's a bargain.

Naemonson is right, I don't think there is any other significant information about them that isn't included in this thread. Good luck, I hope you can buy it and you get as much pleasure from it as I have from mine.

I just found this thread and was reading thru the posts and I'd thought I'd put my 2 cents worth of what I know.

Back in '82, I taught guitar at a small studio in Roy, Ut. The owner had connections to the distributors for all kinds of musical instruments. We got this flyer from Pennino Music, Ca..about a sale on handmade guitars..I looked and on the spot ordered a T-100 12 & a T-150 6 ... $500 for both guitars with hardshell cases. What a deal!! Within 6 months, the 12 string (which had the 'tree of life' inlayed on the neck) front started cracking and then went off. Ruined the guitar. I contacted Pennino, and they said that all they had was a T-50 12 to replace the cracked one. They sent it to me and a $100 check. Essentially paying $100 for the 12 and $300 for the 6, and the T-150 if I remember right, was listed at around $1200 back then.

So that is what I have now. The T-150 is beautiful, plays wonderful and sounds better and richer than guitars 3x as much. Go to myspace page and click in my pics to see some shots of it... REA . Bookend matched, pearl inlay. The T-50 12 is one of the best 12 strings I've ever played, but pretty plain compared to the T-150. Both guitars just seem to have gotten better sounding with age. As with others on this thread, I will never sell mine. They are my work-horses..

I just wish someone would own up to these guitars. Must be some real money involved to keep this quality of a guitar under wraps. Probably part of the Martin suit settlement....???

Only had a small fret job done on it. I love the delicate sound and the elegant looks, and don't intend to sell it.

There seems to be a high degree of loyalty to the Haruo guitar. I wonder how many other makes inspire such loyalty. I can understand someone who is loyal to a particular guitar because of its sound, its age, or its sentimental value.

Do any of us know a Haruo owner who doesn't really care about his/her instrument? Is this sample only those who are loyal?

Well, I recently acquired a T. HARUO 6 string large bodied guitar. I bought it with the idea of possibly selling it, but after reading all these posts and other info on HARUO guitars, and playing it, I really want to hold on to it. I also had a friend play it who is more hip to guitars and he felt it had a better voice, better action and fretted better (especially high up on the neck) than most Martins. Wow, bless Terry Haruo wherever he may be. Looks like these axes could become the holey grail for the people lucky enough to have experience one. I would really look forward to anyone else telling of there experience with one.
It is a thrill (cheap thrill, that is) (: or is it :)

I started this thread with the following post. I still don't know very much about them but you are right about these guitars being well worth the money. I know there are Martin devotees who will not agree but my 12 outplays anything I've tried with the M-word on it.

***************************************************************
May 25, 2002

Well, I've been a bad boy. I made an early trip to the dump this morning and stopped at a yard sale. In the garage I found a T. Haruo 12 String guitar for $70. The neck seems nice and straight, the action seems good and when I played it hard (as hard as I ever play) I heard no buzzing of strings. I saw no cracks in the body.

The label inside has the maker's name, T. Haruo, and a serial number and the model number, T-20-12. there are 20 frets and between the 19th and the 20th is a mother of pearl inlay with T. HARUO engraved on it.

I loved my Haruo T10-12. It's a fine instrument. But I have something else that I now love better: a National 12-string steel-bodied Delphi. It better suits the music I play.

So my Haruo, in fine condition with case, is for sale. I can get pics, sound bites, etc, if any one is interested.

I've got no idea what to ask for it.

I suggest you post this as a separate thread. There are enough people in Maine who wanted my 12 that you might get some interest there. What country are you in? What part of that country? I wish I lived close enough.

As for price go see a luthier. He or she might be able to advise you.

I live in East Tennessee, about 50 miles east of Knoxville, in Morristown, TN, with two guitars and two cats, but only the Haruo model 10-12 is for sale. If I put it on Ebay, no one will know what it is, and it won't bring what I truly know it is worth.

As I said before, can get pics and sound bites.

Thanks,

How completely interesting! My dad bought me a T. Harou 12-string back in 1978/9 from Sam Ash in NY...I have in my head that he paid about $800 for it, but I was only a little kid, so I could remember wrong. It seems like an awful lot of $$ for him to shell out, but at the time it made sense that he would spend the $$, and I remember him taking some "famous" local musician with him to get just the right guitar for me for Xmas.

Anyway, this guitar came up this weekend as my husband and I were housecleaning. It's been sitting in its case for YEARS and only played on occasion by a friend who loves guitars. Other than 1 broken string (which happened very recently), it's in great condition.

I haven't played for years, and it seems like such a waste for it to just sit there, but emotionally I'm torn with the idea of selling it....but we could use the space in our little condo (I'm in California now)....

Let me tell you my story...

My dad bought this guitar for my mom in the early 70's. She learned to play on it, as well as myself when I was young, and my younger brother as well. It was an amazing guitar, that I could never quite match with other purchases.

My mother finally about a year ago gave the guitar to my younger brother (I'm 28, he was 20) and he learned to play on it. Carried that damn thing around with him wherever he went.

Then a turn of fate, on Feb 28 08' my brother was murdered in cold blood at my mother house. Stabbed to death with a girl friend of his. http://www.khq.com/Global/story.asp?S=7938791&nav=menu438_8_6

The guitar was taken by the police, and my mother and family members can't recall what T-model it was. The guitar was found laying a few inches from his body (he probably had it on him when he was attacked) and it was covered in blood. They took it into evidence, and said we can't have it back for a year.

I asked the detectives if the guitar was damaged in the attack, and he said no, it looked perfectly fine, minus the mass amounts of blood on it.

If I only do one thing right in this world, it will be restoring that guitar to the best of my abilities... Does anyone have the name / company info of a place that I can send this guitar to, that will restore it as well as they can? Money isn't an issue considering the guitars history, and its importance to my brother and our family...

Oh, and btw, this T.Harou isn't for sale either :)

I really appreciate it.

We just found this video of him playing a couple months before his death. It is with a friends guitar, not the T.HARUO, but still good to see him play. He was just learning.

From: GUEST,dencof

I bought a T. Haruo model T-80 6 string from a local music store in south Orange county, Ca. back in 1976. I was learning to play the guitar and this was my first. It hurt my fingers, so I bought a Yamaha acoustic with nylon strings so I wouldn't give up. I ended up discontinuing lessons and sold the Yamaha and Fender Strat copy, but couldn't bring myself to sell the T. Haruo. I always loved it's sound. Fast forward to 2007. I gave it to my son, who likes music and wanted to learn to play. He has sung in a band and most his friends play guitar, so I thought they could use it. It now has a split in it's top, I guess from moving to the desert and it dried out. My son took it to a local guitar dealer in Las Vegas, Ed Roman, to inquire about getting it repaired. They had it for a while and it didn't seem to be getting any attention, so my son called them to get some progress. The luthier there asked him to stop by after work and talk about it. My son said when he dropped it of, the luthier said, "oh, it's a Japanese Martin copy....ok", and seemed a little disdainful about it. When my son stopped back in after work the luthier retreived the guitar, got it reverently out of the case, and told him he didn't recommend repairing the top until it was really necessary. He said it could change it's beautiful sound, and that it sounded better than any other guitar in their store. It now gets lots of play time between all the musicians that stop in and visit or want to jam together. It has had a few songs written on it and is enjoyed every day. It is making up for all that lost time that it quitely sat in the dark. Hope you liked the little story. I just wanted to add to the list of T. Haruo information. dc.

Will sumit pics later.   Paid $500.00 out the door (pawnshop).

Just thought I'd add to the post...

I too know nothing about my Haruo.

All it says on the label inside is Handcrafted 1976. With Haruo's signature and Model #50, no serial number or anything.

I've seen pictures of other people's guitars and their labels but never a Model# 50.

I bought this guitar back in 99 I think...from Cartwright's music shop in Stayton Oregon. Just a small local store in a small town. He had it originally listed for approximately $650. He was closing down shop so a lot of stuff was on sale and I got my Haruo for $300 or so with a hard case. I played it and fell in love with it. This shopowner sold mostly high end instruments and said it was one of the best sounding guitars he had there, comparable to Martin.

I love it, it gets played almost daily. Whenever my guitarist friends come over and play on it, it gets complimented on every time. I'll never part with the thing.

If you wanna hear the Haruo in action go to

www.myspace.com/nonstophealing

The first song that comes up is with the Haruo. Don't worry about the lyrics and singing...my buddies just decided to do some freestyle singing late at night after some drinks, haha. Wasn't recorded the best but you can hear the guitar well.

Recently, I've inherited a Haruo T-20 6 string from my father.

At this moment, I'm debating if I am going to sell it or keep it for it's sentimental value. If I sell it, I'm planning to buy an electric instead.

So, what I want to know is, what would be a good asking price for it?

I don't really know what to ask for it, it's in perfect condition, it only needs some new strings, which im going to buy later this week.

Thanks!

Not too many people know about Haruos so its tough to ask a big price from regular people if they don't know much about them. You might have some luck on this posting board though...ya never know. I paid about 350 for mine. Some people have paid more for theirs, some would be willing to pay a lot more for theirs. Just depends on the person at the right time.

I bought my first T. Haruo in 1979 in Singapore for around $150-180US. I was 15, and an exchange student in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The guitar traveled and lived with me until 1993, when I was "carjacked" at 2am after a gig in Chicago. They went straight for the backseat: in retrospect, the thieves probably followed me from the gig. I pulled the keys from the ignition and started to run after them- my passenger yelled sense into me and I stopped- but the Haruo was gone.

Nothing else sounded like that guitar.

I believe it was actually a Model 10 six string- though in the web info I have found, people have only talked about Model 10 twelve string guitars.

Then in 2007, on a whim, I checked Ebay and bought a Model 50- it was my first Ebay purchase, and I won. In 2008, I found a Model 60 (with the 3 piece D35 back). I play them both, all the time. New friends are consistently stunned by the Haruo's sound and feel.

So I always wonder if a Model 10 six string will turn up someplace...

Thank you all for keeping the Haruo info flowing. Peace.

Subject: RE: Haruo 12 String - What do we know?
From: GUEST,Dee Tatum - Ft. Worth, TX.

In the late 70's T. Haruo had left Yamaha, where he was a master luthier, and attempted to put his own signature line into the American market. Some pieces had been sold via wholesalers in earlier 70's, but Haruo himself travelled in USA late 70's. His desire to build the best acoustic guitar possible differed from Yamaha's desire to build affordable guitars for the masses - hence they eventually parted. One of the final stops Haruo made was to St. Louis Music Supply, who owned distribution and brand rights to Alvarez Guitars, Crate Amps, etc. They passed on getting involved with the Haruo line - maybe it was the conflict with their own Alvarez line - I don't know. Before leaving Haruo left a Model 150 with one of the sales managers. I bought it from him in 1983. Today, 26 years later, people still freak out over the warmth and sound of my Model 150. It is still breathtaking. When the strings are replaced and fresh - it almost makes you want to cry. I have played Martins, Taylors, Rainsongs, Gibsons, Larivees, etc and on and on. I have yet to meet a guitar on this planet which sounds better than my Haruo, which I paid $200 for. A contributing factor to this sound is certainly the Jacaranda - the back and sides are made from a glorious cut of Jacaranda with gold streaks, brown waves, dark almost black ripples, and rich chocolate swirls - wood that is no longer available to luthiers or anyone for that matter. I honestly believe that it is not a case where Haruo has improved on CF Martins design and brilliance - he simply stumbled upon a tonewood that we may or may not ever see or hear again.

I think I was one of the first to get my t-20 at sam ash in Hempstead. I have had mine for 34 years . I took it out today after playing my Martin HD28. It was still in perfect tune., umlike my martin which had to be tuned slightly. I look at both and se very little difference. inside the braces are almost identical. sound wise I think maybe a little less bright, but that could be the strings, a little less chunk, probably the slightest difference in wood and looks wise I actually think all the abalone inserts are nicer on the Haruo. I own both and would say for $2500 less the Haruo was a bargain.

i recently started playing twelve string again.   i have a yamaha that will do untill i decide if i am going to focus on it, but the haruo fans are fun to read.

Trust me, ollaimh, once you play a Haruo you will never look at the Yamaha again.

well i bid on a haruo 12 string on ebasy and went to bed, i won! it came todayand i have to say it is special. it was under fout hundred bucks with shipping and plays better and sounds better than thre guild i had years ago. thanks to this list i got one. i had never heard of haruo before, so it was a usefull education.

i tuned it a tone below standard to start with but it certainly shows no trouble. i have a 12 string capo from my old guild and i used on my yamaha to get to pitch.

i am really impressed with the sound, playability all the wayn up the neck and the workmanship. good action is particularly nice as i finger pick the twevle most of the time--it really is the way to go-- but tough action up the neck is the bane if 12 string finger pickers.

this rivals the ted thompson 12 i played in toronto at twelveth frett, which i thought was the best 12 i had played in years, so thanaks for thew heads up. i great guitar i can afford

Congratulations! Welcome to the Haruo family.

It just occurred to me that I haven't freed up my guitars in a while. Maybe I should look into that.

After reading all the positive reviews, I bought a t haruo 80 that was listed on ebay for $399. I normally would never buy a guitar without first playing it(I'm pretty picky), but after reading so many great things, I just had to get it. Am I brainwashed? lol

I hope I did the right thing..

I bought my T. Haruo Guitar in 1978 in San Francisco for about $400. I never did learn to play very well, but have kept the guitar all these years and it is still in great shape.

I want to inform all of the T.Haruo fans out there, that Mr. Haruo Terada passed away in Japan in June, 2011. Terada continues producing with his son Shogo at the helm.

I am currently working on a bio of Terada, both Haruo and his brother Masao.

More to come.

Sad to hear of the death of a genius. I wish I could get the old guitar out to play something in his memory but a year of pounding on the keyboard in pursuit of a master degree has left me with carpal tunnel and poor control of some of the fingers on both hands.

Has anyone played a T-10 6 string model? I found one I'm thinking of buying. On IMDB there's a short movie about T. Haruo. Has anyone watched it or know where to get it? I've looked all over the internet, and can't find where to watch it or buy it. her's the link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1965129/

Okay everyone. I have a 12 string T. Haruo T-100 acoustic guitar. Gorgeous, looks like this top of the line guitar was constructed with Makassar back & sides, has the upside down "V" shape inlay on the back, beautiful vine up the neck and Tree of Life on fret plate.

Interested in selling - recently widowed. Want to give it a good home!

Is there any record of Haruo producing nylon string guitars?
I believe I've located one. The label is torn but it looks like the last two letters are "UO".
The model is an "80-N"
_thanks in advance
