It bugs me, because I'd sure like to add this one to my repertoire. I'd like to see sheet music. Is it in a songbook somewhere? What's the story behind this song? Does anybody have that issue, and can you post what they say about the song? -Joe Offer- From Joe Offer, 29 May 2017: Generous souls have helped me to almost complete my Sing Out! collection. Here are the lyrics from v.35#1 ... p.42. Except for punctuation, they are exactly the same as what's in the Digital Tradition. TIME HAS MADE A CHANGE IN ME (Harkins Freye) Time has made a change since my childhood days; Many of my friends have gone away. Some I never more in this life will see. Time has made a change in me.
Time has made a change in the old home place; Time has made a change in each smiling face. And I know my friends can plainly see Time has made a change in me. In my childhood days, I was well and strong; I could climb the hillside all day long. I am not today what I used to be. Time has made a change in me. When I reach my home in that land somewhere, With my friends who wait to meet me over there, Free from pain and care I'll forever be. Time has made a change in me. Transcribed from the singing of Peter and Mary Alice Amidon. The song was written by Harkins Freye, a West Virginia native who wrote and published gospel music in the 1920s. The indication is that Mr. Posen is actually in Ontario, so it may not be quick, although it shouldn't be tough for them to reply since you've got the vol/issue and page number. Alternative - leave off the "Songfinder" and get the back issue. V35#1 is listed as available for $3.50 - features Katie Webster and Garnet Rogers. 04 Jun 02 - 08:16 AM (#722708) Subject: RE: Chords-Time Has Made a Change in Me From: RoyH (Burl) 'Time Has Made a Change in Me' is the title song on Jerry Epstein's album on Minstrel Records, JD-212. He sings it splendidly. In the booklet notes Jerry says '...... I learned 'Time Has Made a Change in Me' from the shape-note singing teacher, Richard Moss. Mr.Moss sang with an awe-inspiring, highly decorated, intense style that I can only echo..............It is among the most uplifting and unifying songs for a group of singers that I have ever heard' I agree, having heard Jerry, Jeff Warner, and Jeff Davis sing it at a club I once ran. Their lead and the response of a 100 strong audience is an abiding memory for me. Singout/Penny, find the chords by all means, but could I suggest you give a thought to singing it unaccompanied. It sounds wonderful that way. |
06 Sep 03 - 05:49 PM (#1014035) Subject: Origins: Time Has Made A Change (In Me) From: davidneale The song "Time Has Made A Change (In Me)" is credited variously to "traditional," Frye and Freye (both Harkan). I know that Jimmy DeBerry recorded a song listed as 'Time has Made A Change" during one of his two Sun sessions in 1953 and that the song was issued in June of that year on Sun 185. It seems that his recording was more in the Blues vein. Was this the same song? And is this the same song as is nowadays found in folk and gospel collections? So, it's pretty clear that the songwriter for "Time Has Made a Change in Me" is Harkins Frye, published by Stamps Quartet Music Company. Apparently, Stamps Quartet Music is a label of the Nelon Music Group. Licensing is through http://www.ClearBoxRights.com - but I can't get a response from ClearBoxRights to verify that. |

Not sure of the title. My father in law would like to find a copy if it is print? If it is in a hymnal or not? If so which one? He is 82 and I would love to find him a copy even if it is just a copy of the lyrics if some would have a copy. He remembers Harkins Frye teaching it to a singing school that he put on when he was young (around 9-10 years old). I would love to get him a copy of it. I have been looking with no avail. Please email me if someone would I appreciate it. Thanks, Jack ferrellj@marshall.edu |
