She watched for him day and night She kept all the campfires bright And under the sky, each night she would lie, And dream about his com-ing-by-and-by; But when all the braves returned, The heart of Red Wing yearned For far, far away, her war-ri-or gay Fell bravely in the fray CHORUS John |
04 Jun 02 - 02:53 AM (#722617) Subject: Lyr Add: RED WING From: JohnInKansas I haven't checked the DT, but I'm pretty sure it's there. Just in case - A slightly different (from previous post) lyric for Red Wing follows, as TEXT A, with a "Vulgar Version" as TEXT B. Guy Logsdon, in The Whorehouse Bells Were Ringing: and Other Songs Cowboys Sing, page 207ff, gives: RED WING TEXT A There once lived an Indian maid, A shy little prairie maid, She sang a lay, a love song gay, While on the plains she'd while away the day; This shy little maid of old, She loved a warrior bold, But far, far away he rode one day, To battle in the fray. CHORUS Now the moon shines tonight on pretty Red Wing, The breeze is sighing, the night bird's crying; Far, oh, far beneath the star her brave is sleeping, While Red Wing's weeping her heart away She watched for him day and night, She kept all the camp fires bright, While under the sky, each night she would lie And dream about his coming by and by; When all the braves returned, The heart of Red Wing yearned, But far, far away, her warrior gay, Fell bravely in the fray. TEXT B (VULGAR) There once lived an Indian maid, She sat in the silent shade, Afraid some buckaroo would ram it up her flue, As she sat in the silent shade; Then with her sunburned hand, She crammed it full of sand, So if some buckaroo did ram it up her flue, He'd never reach the promised land., CHORUS Now the moon shines tonight on Charlie Chaplin, His shoes are cracking, for the want of blackin' Hids damned old briches, they need patchin', Where he's been scratchin' the lice away Logsdon also gives an alternate Chorus, "commonly known," as: CHORUS Now the sun shines bright 'round pretty Red Wing, As she lies sleeping, there comes a-creepin' A cowboy brave with eyes a-gleamin' His cock a-standin', with promised joy. And the "Chaplin" alternate chorus, attibuted to Riley Neal: CHORUS Now the moon shines tonight on Charlie Chaplin, His shoes are cracking, for the want of blackin'; His damned old britches, they need patchin', Where he's been scratchin' the lice away.

04 Jun 02 - 09:32 AM (#722747) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lyrics for Leprosy (Jealosy) and Redwing From: Malcolm Douglas We do have several search engines onsite, which are really quite useful. I particularly recommend the "Digitrad and Forum Search"; a search for redwing will get you some results, but red wing (the song's title) will get you more; including, in the DT: RED WING
And in the Forum, where people have asked for this song a number of times in the past: Redwing lyrics A similar search for leprosy will find (among other things): |
