27 Apr 98 - 10:24 PM (#26694) Subject: Island of Mull-Tannahill Weavers From: Cliff I am looking for the lyrics to a song about the Island of Mull. The Tannahill Weavers recorded it on one of their recordings. I can only remember the chorus which goes something like: Wherever I wander east or west Waking or dreaming You are near me oh joy of my heart, Eilean Mull-A |
28 Apr 98 - 11:19 AM (#26744) Subject: RE: Island of Mull-Tannahill Weavers From: Bruce O. There's a song "An t-Eilean Muileach" (The Isle of Mull) in Gaelic with metrical English translation (and music) in Alfred Moffat's 'The Minstresly of the Scottish Highlands'. Its in both the full and cut reprint editions. |
28 Apr 98 - 11:26 AM (#26746) Subject: RE: Island of Mull-Tannahill Weavers From: Jon W. It's on their Cullen Bay album. I checked it out from the library a few years ago, and if I remember right the lyrics were on the liner notes. Otherwise, if I can find my (bootlegged) tape (shhh!) I'll try to transcribe it. |

20 Jul 00 - 03:56 PM (#261662) Subject: RE: Island of Mull-Tannahill Weavers From: Willie-O "Joy of My Heart" has also been recorded by Archie Fisher with Garnet Rogers on "Off the Map", (Snow Goose Songs 1986)--lovely album, was it released in the States? I always took the line to be "Harris and Eigg and fair Iona..." since Eigg like the others is an island while Dunvegan is a castle...

19 Jan 02 - 04:15 AM (#631005) Subject: RE: Island of Mull-Tannahill Weavers From: GUEST,Philippa see message from Malcolm Douglas Apparently the song was written in English and then translated to Gaelic; Malcolm provides both sets of lyrics. But how about older Gaelic lyrics to the same air (Leannan mo Ghaoil)? |
