07 Jun 02 - 06:43 PM (#725604) Subject: Eddie Catchy Gitchee Goomee... From: GUEST,Mimsey There was a song that a high school friend tried to teach me on the last day of our senior year. I got down the chorus, and I remember the tune for it. But now that it's coming back to me, I want to know what the verses are, too, 'cause it would be a good song to sing for kids. You are probably my only chance to find out these lost lyrics, Mudcatters, since I have lost contact with my friend David Nutzell, and nobody else I have asked has ever heard this song. I will be amazed and gratified if you can recover this little song. The chorus goes: Eddie Catchy Gitchee Goomee Toasta Nova Toasta Nova Sammy Gammy Wacky Brown Fell into a wel, fell into a well, Fell into a deep, dark well. His sister sees him fall in the well, so she runs and tells her mom, who runs and tells the neighbor, who runs to get the fireman or somebody, etc., the point being that it takes so long to repeat his name that he drowns before any help arrives. Or so I recall. Many thankees in advance for efforts at diggin' this up. Mimsey |

I found it by searching for Eddie with our "Filter." Helps that I already knew we had a thread on the song. The only recording I know of is the one by The Brother Four on their self-titled album. They call it "Sama Kama Wacky Brown."*** For some reason, people just don't take a lot of care to be accurate on the lyrics of this one.... -Joe Offer- ***It's on a 2-fer CD from Collectors Choice Music, the self-titled album and B.M.O.C. on one CD. |
