Lucky you, going to Thermop! There is a campground there with a hot-spring fed swimming pool. Crazy Woman Campground in Gillette WY is very good too.

I wish you lovely skies on the whole trip, and I bet you'll get 'em.

Francy, looking forward to meeting you folks...didn't get the mail, today, it was too hot to go out! Will check it tomorrow. If you want me to call the radio station and give them a listen or anything, just holler. You did get my PM, right?

Sounds like a wonderful trip. There is a campground just up the canyon, beyond where the hot springs are, out of Thermop towards Worland, which is right by the river with nice shower facilities. There is also a nice little motel spot right in town which has old cabins on a little patch of a city block. They are quite rustic with knotty pine paneling and all. We always stayed at them because of the ambiance. However, an old hotel right in the Hot Springs Park has been renovated and my friend who stayed there said it was just wonderful. You can't miss it, just past the Holiday Inn at teh entrance to the Park.

Tell the Wind River I miss it!? *bg*

If you are going from Thermop to kat's place, you will need to pass close by me........give me a PM with your route, OK? I could meet you someplace.....Wyoming is not a state--it's a State of Mind with a long Main Street.

Frank, on your way to Washington from Montana, if you're taking I-90 you will pass right through Smelterville,Idaho. Which, of course, is where I live. I can see the freeway from my house.you can also see my house from the freeway. Don't blink you might miss it.

Don't have a lot of room, but there is a motel two houses down and a truckstop across the freeway.

If anything,at least a good hello and a couple of tunes picked always works.

If you are taking I-84 (you about have to in order to see Jellystone park) you will pass close by my place - we've a bunk house, sort of, that is self contained for guests. If you'd like to stay the night here - I work during the day so wouldn't have a lot of time - but if you need it - we're here.

this is sweet to see these copnnections being made here in cyber land.. I do not live on your route, (I am near the feather river canyon near the highway 70 that runs thru California.) but have had great memories while travelling in those areas.. one of my favorite places on the planet is above grand junction-- Grand Mesa- the mesa lakes resort is a funky place with old log cabins, many lakes (300 in the area) elk, muskrats, beaver, etc. and fishing..it is within 20 miles of grand junction, i think, and i always try to stay there if i am passing thru western colorado--be careful though I hear there are fires threatening the area-esp. that town with the hot springs in colorado--don't remember the name- Idaho springs? oh yes, a trip to the old atlas reveals it is Glenwood springs. happy trails. be safe...Laurel p.s. if anyone is in my area, i host an open mike at Scooter's Cafe near Jarbo Gap, on wed. nights 7-10 on hiwy 70 between quincy & oroville.

Dang it! I just rambled through Nevada,Idaho,Montana,Wyoming and Eastern Colorado. I stopped in Casper, Kat, but due to being slow and not asking Roy and Evelyn for your number (it wasn't listed as near as I could tell) I couldn't call and I wasn't sure if you had moved yet or not. That was on the 7th of June. I have been travelling since April 29th and am trying to adjust to not moving constantly.

If any of you Eastern Slopers want to meet up with Frank, over here on the 23/34th, whenever he thinks he'll get here, you are more than welcome here. We have a double bed and a/c in the tiny "caravan" and some floor space in the house if you don't mind cats in your face or on your legs at night. Only one bathroom for all and we don't have enough furniture as it's stil in WY, but lawn chairs work well.:-)

Kat, I'll be backing up singer/songwriter Brenn Hill at a Cowboy Music/Poetry festival in Rawlins on the 19th and 20th of July. I don't know if you're into the "cowboy" stuff but if you are, there are usually jams and open mic times at these events.

If you do make it out, make sure you introduce yourself to me. I'll be the one playing mandolin and banjo with Brenn. It's always a pleasure to bump into other "folkies" at the "cowboy" shows.

I live up north of ogden (about an hour north of Salt Lake) but my mother grew up in Vernal. Nice country out there.

Thanks....Mike

Speaking of being into the Cowboy stuff: Go to "jobs in and around Yellowstone" (coolworks.com/yell.html). There is a concessionaire that hires a "cowboy" musician for the summer trail-ride season. The applicant must "be capable of playing guitar and singing in a pleasing manner." They must have at least an hour and a half of un-repeated cowboy music in their repetoire. Don't know what it pays but you get your meals, get to ride out in some beautiful country and can keep your tips!

jeez, I forgot about the fires! Hope you Westerners keep unignited, I was stunned by the DRYNESS I saw, low creeks and rivers all the green starting to look brown. It's raining like mad here as I type this.

Good luck

There's ol' LEJ. Where you bin hiding? Yep, the Horse Creek Saloon has gone under. I've played many a tune there. The only place around here that's left now is the Bucksnort Saloon. I don't know how it's still standing. Seeing as everyone other place I've played at in these parts has burned down I figure it's cursed.

Frank says he will be around these parts on the 25th and 26th. I'm tied up for the latter but would sure be up for some tunes and songs on the 25th. That's tuesday.

Oh and Sorch, speaking of Denver, proper or not, the national news has it that the state capitol is threatened by the fire. I had a funny vision of ol' governer Owens out there beating the flames down with a wet towel and hosing down the capitol building with a garden hose. We're doing OK here. Got the place settin a little more fire safe with more trees dropped and cleared away.

Alright, so EJ can make the 25th. How does work for Frank? Then there's still the location. There are open stages and such in the Denver area. Can't say if there is one on a tuesday. Pretty sure there isn't one in the Evergreen/Conifer area. Speaking just for myself I would rather be up in the hills where it's cooler than to go into town if I don't have to.

From: GUEST

Frank- I hope you can check a computer on your travels. If so, please be aware that you have two main routes to get from Durango to Denver. You can either catch Hwy 285 north out of Del Norte, or continue east on 160. 285 is mountainous and very pretty, but 160 is faster, and leads you past the town of La Veta, where me and my clan reside, on the east side of La Veta Pass.

(You know, I had a very similar conversation about two routes to Denver a couple of years ago, with Allan C and Mr. Bill Sables. That turned out very well, indeed.)

To let you know my schedule, I will be gone on the 25th and 26th, but please drop by if you can anytime Thursday thru Monday. Just stop by Charlie's, the local grocery, and ask how to get ahold of Jay, David and Annie. Or look in the phone book under Jenkins. (La Veta is a small town).

What's really cool about the possibility of your visit, is that my daughter and common law son-in-law are finally tying the knot this Saturday. Yep- the pick-up hippies are finally getting married. Their business finally turned enough profit to do it. Shit, I sure can't afford to pay for such luxuries.

But no ordinary church wedding, no sir. It will be held outdoors, at the Sulpher Springs ranch just outside of town. We have 200 RSVP's so far, and it looks like a weekend long affair, with multi-musicians performing.

I am very embarrased. I can't believe I didn't post this info sooner, because all Mudcatters are of course invited to attend.

But Frank, I really hope that you find this message along your way. We'd love to have you, Nancy, Colin and Casey at my daughter's wedding. Thanks, BlueJay

If anyone should hear where Frank is, I'm still checking now and then today just in case we can put something together.
