08 Jun 02 - 05:09 AM (#725895) Subject: Folk workshop broadcast BBC4 From: GUEST,Sarah I attended a fiddle workshop at Folkbeat Derby a couple of months ago which was run by Olav from Swedish band Vasen. He played his nyckelharpa throughout whilst we played fiddles. Also in attendance were a BBC film crew who told us the piece would be part of a broadcast on BBC4 (digital I think) sometime in June. I've just remembered this and haven't been able to check as I don't have digital. Does anyone know if this broadcast has already gone out and if it has, did anyone video tape it? Any help greatly appreciated (Sam Pirt might well be interested too). Cheers Sarah Cheffins |

08 Jun 02 - 06:35 AM (#725916) Subject: RE: Folk workshop broadcast BBC4 From: DMcG I keep a fairly close eye on BBC4 and haven't noticed it. Do you have any idea whether this would be a part of a music-based programme or a locality-based one? |

08 Jun 02 - 02:53 PM (#726101) Subject: RE: Folk workshop broadcast BBC4 From: Malcolm Douglas BBC4 will be transmitting a series of European roots films on Tuesday nights at 9pm. I don't know if this is the same thing, but it's relevant anyway.

08 Jun 02 - 03:50 PM (#726118) Subject: RE: Folk workshop broadcast BBC4 From: DMcG For some reason Malcolm Douglas left out Tuesday 11 June of "European Roots" which is focused on Nitin Sawhney. It looks like it is part of the same series even though it is not based on a region like three of the four he mentions. |

Though very gratifying that I'm one of the three. ntl is crap for reading long Mudcat threads, but it does send me BBC4! |

09 Jun 02 - 09:26 AM (#726502) Subject: RE: Folk workshop broadcast BBC4 From: GUEST,Sarah From the listing it sounds like it must be the 'Nyckelharpa strikes back'as I can't see them filming too many nyckelharpas! Any chance of a tape someone? - both Sam and I are in Sweden for the Falun Festival on July 9 so we have NO chance of seeing this. Cheers Sarah |

09 Jun 02 - 10:17 AM (#726509) Subject: RE: Folk workshop broadcast BBC4 From: Malcolm Douglas Ian Anderson of fRoots posted the list I quoted on uk.music.folk recently; he gets advance notice of such things. The BBC4 site has a little information, but I haven't found any about the later programmes in the series yet. European Roots: Nitin Sawhney is featured on the Jazz page, but at present the link to details about it actually goes to something about Jeff Buckley. I expect they'll fix it in time. |
