Newfoundlander, I found this song on Cowpie. I don't know if it's the one you want, but it's certainly an interesting song.

Thanks Joe, but that's not the song. The one one I'm looking for was released by Johnny Cash in the early seventies. I think it starts like this. Beside a singing mountain stream where the willows grow, and the silver leaves of maple sparkel with the morning dew.

FLESH AND BLOOD
Words and music by Johnny Cash
As recorded by Johnny Cash on "I Walk the Line" (original soundtrack album, 1970)

[1] Beside a singin' [4] mountain stream [1] where the willow grew,
Where the [4] silver leaf of [1] maple sparkled [2] in the morning [5] dew,
I [1] braided twigs of [4] willow, made a [1] string of buckeye beads,
But [4] flesh and blood needs [1] flesh and blood and [4] you're the one I [1] need.
[4] Flesh and blood needs [1] flesh and blood and [4] you're the one I [1] need.

I leaned against the bark of birch and I breathed the honeydew.
I saw a northbound flock of geese against a sky of baby blue.
Beside the lily pads, I carved a whistle from a reed.
Mother Nature's quite a lady, but you're the one I need.
Flesh and blood needs flesh and blood and you're the one I need.

A cardinal sang just for me and I thanked him for the song,
Then the sun went slowly down the west and I had to move along.
These were some of the things on which my mind and spirit feed,
But flesh and blood needs flesh and blood and you're the one I need.
Flesh and blood needs flesh and blood and you're the one I need.

[SPOKEN] So when the day was ended, I was still not satisfied,
For I knew ev'rything I touched would wither and would die,
And love is all that will remain and grow from all these seed.
Mother Nature's quite a lady, but you're the one I need.
Flesh and blood needs flesh and blood and you're the one I need.
