13 Jun 02 - 05:27 AM (#729018) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: English Jon Middlewich is also to be a cultural event, so to speak. Have packed car up, and got to work, and then realised I've forgotten Duvet. Bugger. The cat is asleep on the passenger seat, he sends his regarrrrrrds. Only trouble with Cleckheaton is that I'm likely to go to the pub and then spend about four thousand pounds that I don't have in the music shop next door!!! See you on Friday folks! Cheers EJ (+C)

It's for singers, dancers, players, poets and audience. Something for everyone. Camping, pub (Harveys ales) and hall all on the same site. North or south there's always somewhere to go to avoid mowing the lawn at weekends. |

02 Jul 02 - 06:04 PM (#740968) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Mrs.Duck I may be thick but having looked at my tickets and the website I can't find anywhere that tells me where the campsite is. Does anyone know and could they give a map reference. Also does anyone know if we can put the caravan on site before we get our tickets or do we have to park the van outside the townhall? Alternatively Geoff could call into the office earlier in the day if we knew what time it opened. Also the compliment slip that came with our ticket showed the office as the organiser's home address - I wonder how many people turn up on their front step expecting tickets etc.! I expect we'll give Geoff Pickles a ring but it would have been useful to have had the info. |

03 Jul 02 - 01:20 PM (#741567) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Eric the Viking The campsite is about 1 and 1/2 miles out of town, by the swimming pool-but there is a bus, I believe. Session in the commercial on Saturday pm, and outside the Wickham at several other times (not if it's persisting it down!) Sing arounds inside the Wickham at all hours of the day and night. Don't yet know about a sunday session, but most likely to be outside the Wickham. Cheers |

04 Jul 02 - 01:14 AM (#741971) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Liz the Squeak Cleckheaton, like Brigadoon, only appears for a few hours each year. It's a part of Huddersfield, but closer than that isn't revealed until you get there..... (it's marked on most maps... you can only see it sometimes though.....) It's got a lovely town hall. I think. It also has Eric the Viking and a whole moor full of sheep within riding distance..... be afraid... be very afraid...... PM Ned Ludd, he may be able to help you with directions, as he has a better sense of where he is than I do (directional talents of a dead stoat, me!). I'd guess from Hull, go to Huddersfield and turn left. I have to do the second star to the right and straight on til morning thing - which usually gets me to Newport Pagnell, even if I was aiming for Cornwall. I made it to Sheffield once.... just the once...... LTS |
04 Jul 02 - 01:36 AM (#741978) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Thanks Liz, I will maybe see you there, though I am not sure wether my current car will make it ( I am driving a heap of crap Lada nowadays, and it only just made it to Beverley, 5 miles up the road!) so I might get a bus or hitch-hike. |

04 Jul 02 - 04:05 PM (#742406) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Dave the Gnome The Gnome will not be there unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view...) There will however be two secret mudcatters, diguised as half of Feet in Mouths, there on Saturday. Not sure where though. Maybe that too is secret??? Watch for loot, pillage and the handing out of Swinton Festival posters amongst all the other goings on and the walk up and resolutely say 'You are the secret mudcatters and I claim my quarter pound of black lace panties' and then see what happens. If they deny all knowledge it must be them! Good luck all and have fun. Well, have something at least. Cheers Dave the Gnome |
04 Jul 02 - 05:24 PM (#742447) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Col K As said the camp site is by the swimming pool cum sports centre. Leave M62 at Jcn 26 follow signs to Clecky about two miles. Town Hall on left hand side of road camp site about a mile further on, on right hand side of road, it WILL be signed. When you get to camp site report to camp site workers/bosses whatever you want to call them, give them a/some beer and they will be happy to direct you to a place to put yor tent. Guess who is doing the campsite this year? OK Tis me!!! Everything will be OK there just hope the weather is good to us campers, See you there Col.K |

05 Jul 02 - 01:39 PM (#742952) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: GUEST,Mike Cahill In the past when the weather has been damp, thay have tried to keep caravans, and motorhomes and cars on the hard standing of the pool car park because the exit to the site is up a 20degree sloap (sp?) it very quickly becomes a mud slide. Believe me it has been damp round here the past few days! |
05 Jul 02 - 02:49 PM (#742999) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: harpmaker We have not got tickets, will we be able to to come over and stay on the campsite in our campervan? Will it cost? |
05 Jul 02 - 04:11 PM (#743050) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: nutty Harpmaker .... you can usually stay in the car park behind the Town Hall if you are self contained but you need to get there relatively early to get a flat spot as the car park is on a slope. I've done this a number of times and never had a problem. |
07 Jul 02 - 04:07 PM (#743948) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Liz the Squeak Well Bratling and I had a wonderful time, so busy with my particular dance team that I never actually saw any of the festival (booked from 10.30 to 4.00 with only 2 1/2 hr breaks, used to get from venue to venue.... After that (having got to bed at 3.30am, and woken up by a frog at 6.00am....), was too tired to do anything but go back and fill my head with green goop. Managed to hear the Shellbacks though, they were outside the pub opposite the Town Hall whilst I was sitting in the car park behind the Town Hall (drooling over a Triumph Bonneville)! What do you mean you didn't see us?? Geoff and Mrs Duck did.... I was with the Biggest Morris Dance team in the country.... their newest member won his baldricks at another venue today.... LTS |

Bless the weather for not being as abismal as it promised on Friday! p.s. did anyone on the campsite find a shoe on Sunday morning? My friend managed to lose one of his at the end of Saturday night. I didn't really like to ask, but I just wondered if anyone had picked it up! Cheers Midears! ( - : Messages from multiple threads combined. |
08 Jul 02 - 02:11 PM (#744462) Subject: RE: Cleckheaton From: John Routledge The weather was incredible - 25C on Sunday and no rain!! The vast majority of people seemed to have a great time. At £17.50 for a weekend ticket if you buy early it is great value for money assuming that you want to do more than sing and play in pub sessions. Roll on 2003 |

08 Jul 02 - 06:58 PM (#744677) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Noreen Good to hear that the Shellbacks can indeed be heard over a 5-mile radius as predicted, Liz! My children camped with me at Cleckheaton this weekend, first time camping at a festival (though seasoned campers) and they'll be at Saddleworth and Warwick with me too: they were singing Shellback songs all the way home (and making up extra verses!) though it wasn't cool to actually sing along with us in public *grin* It was good to meet Mudcatters old and new, shame I didn't get to hear more of them in their concerts, but the singarounds were good. Thank you again, Bradfordian, for the long-awaited pint- I really had forgotten what I'd done to deserve it! Good to meet you. Was that you, Ned Ludd, with English Jon (sans cat) and the hurdy gurdies? My son was very interested in them and we'd have loved to have a go :0) Noreen |
08 Jul 02 - 07:19 PM (#744701) Subject: RE: BS: Cleckheaton Folk festival From: Liz the Squeak NOOO - not budding Bottle of Wasp players!!! Judging by conversations at unearthly hours (unearthly whilst sober) on Sunday morning it probably was.... Mr Ludd is an accomplished wasp botherer and did drool mightily over another Bottle of Wasps present. It wasn't quite 5 miles and it wasn't word clear, but we could tell what songs you were singing.... it sounded most odd with some of the chorus efforts! Only sorry I didn't get to come and say hello, although I did wave goodbye as you were all standing on the steps opposite the town hall, and I was going past behind the bus. LTS |
