From: fogie I'm sure there must be places one can go and listen to klezmer, It would be nice to know where klezs hang out to practice or gig. Can anybody out there let me know please. I guess that weddings are out? ? or maybe someone will invite me to a nice kosher wedding. |

For the big Klezfest happening in London 21st to 25th July, contact www.jmi.org.uk Starts with "the world's biggest Klezmer band" in Regent's Part Sunday 21st July. Apart from this big festival, Gregori Schechter and band do gigs at "The Spitz", Spitalfields near Liverpool Street Station (London). The JMI (Jewish Music Institute - website above) will also be a good source for links to other parts of the country. "London Jewish News" and "Jewish Chronicle" also advertise events. From: Jeanie Fogie, if you are anywhere near London, SOAS in Russell Square run performance classes, 10 pounds a session, led by Merlin Shepherd. Details on the Jewish Music Institute website mentioned before. ALSO, alongside the Klezfest from 14th to 19th July, there is an intensive Crash Course in Yiddish, which includes singing.
