Health/Life expectancy quiz

says I'll get to 84 - despite being an overweight smoker who doesn't take vitamins, asperin or excercise.

Yippee! it says I will live to be 64, no need to bother with a pension then! We retire at 65 in the UK. Best news I've had all day!

"bologna" or "baloney" is a highly processed "lunchmeat" - common and cheap in the US. definition

most people dont consider it to be actual food, edible, or healthy.

Mind you, if the next 30 years are as bad as the last one, I don't think I want to get THAT far!!

I got 93.6.

Some of the questions didn't really apply, though... my mother is still alive and only just now turning 70. If she stays the way she is, though, she ain't going to need any assistance.

I did have three immediate family members with diabetes, but two of them are dead now.

I have to confess, I do love bologna! Must be on white bread with Miracle Whip. I rarely eat it these days, though. But --- the Oscar-Meyer Lite and Fat-Free varieties are VERY good. I love hot dogs too, but they usually make my head hurt. We tried the Ball Park Turkey dogs, and they're really good too.

Before anyone put's any great store in the results, note that the purpose of the survey is to try to get you to buy a book...

It is in no way scientifically accurate, or even approaching it.

Or we could get hit by a bus. Still, 90.4, and I don't even exercise regularly. I don't mind that. Gives me a positive outlook on my prospects for longevity. Maybe that phsychological boost, alone, will helpe me to live longer.

So I flipped and coin, lost 2 out of three, so guess Iz been gone fir a while, which is a purdy darned good excuse for any posts my ghost might have made for which I'd now have to say, ahhhhh, "Sorry". So....sorry...

Think I'll take it again to see if it's worth going to bed.

Yep, what's life without tobacco, caffeine, alcohol, and red meat? Why pretty soon, there'd be the end of the Folk Tradition as we know it. Just think of all those Uncle Dave Macon songs:
  • Country Ham and Red-eye Gravy
  • From Earth to Heaven (starts out mentioning whiskey, beer and wine)
  • Gray Cat on a Tennessee Farm

There are probably more.

According to my doctor, I'm in pretty good shape. Blood pressure 120/60 Cholesterol 211 triglyserides 204 H.D.L. 67 and LDL 101. I have an appointment on wednesday to see if the cancer is gone, and, either way, I'm going back to Johns-Hopkins to have a follow up exam. Think I'll plan on living a while longer; there's Old Songs, the Getaway, a performance with Gordon Bok and probably Dave Mallett. Yup, worth living for.

91.4. I think there's been a mistake here. My Father died at 94, my Mother just celebrated her 95th birthday with 3 birthday parties, and just stopped driving this year... drove her Father's milk truck making deliveries at 13. I think that the youngest anyone has died on my Mother's side of the family (other than one of her brothers who was accidentally electrocuted) was 93 or 94. Same with my Grandparents who died well into their 90's, with the exception of my Mother's Mother who died on the operating table through gross negligence on the part of the surgeon. I just turned 67 and it is really weird to think that if I live a couple of years longer than my parents, I may still have a third of my life left. Personally, I can't take credit for any of it...

I'll make it to over 90 and I don't lead a good life... yikes! But that's with grandparents of over 95... all I need to is avoid wars, I guess. Nobody in my family has died of natural causes at an age under 95 in at least 2 generations, but the Nazis knocked out most of Mom's side and terrorists got Dad... can bad luck run in families?

88 plus -- but there are a number of questions missing, and I don't actually know my grandparents' ages when they died -- except my paternal grandmother was well into her 90s and quite senile -- but she lived on her own reasonably well and healthy until her late 80s.

I could actually live to be a great-grandmother! And my kids will be saddled with supporting me, unless I start making more money and not dawdling around on the 'cat!

Jeez -- I came up at 94.6. And me on the wrong side of 200 lbs. But I take my vitamins, garlic & parsley tabs as well as E and selenium (taken together, by the way, and not at the same time as your other vitamins). Curmudgeon smokes, but he avoids it around me. Got some long-lived ancestors on Dad's side of the family -- probably makes up for the other side of the family. Life is stressful, but hey, I've learned to cope with that and come out smiling on the other side. Gardening, walking, and running around at my p/t job -- better than sweating over machines (though my free weights get lots of use).

The most sedentary I get is typing away here at Mudcat or reading during a de-stressification bubble bath with my alloted margarita. (Hey, with all that vitamin C, cactus & lime juice, margaritas are health food, right?)

Hrothgar: "Karking?" That's a new one to me... is that like "Checking Out," or "kicking the bucket?"

A few years ago, I went to visit my Aunt and Uncle who were living in the same residence my Mother now lives in. While we were sitting in the social room, a woman came wheeling down the hallway at a break-neck clip, and pulled into the room (right over my Uncle's foot.) She no sooner had interrupted our visit than she dozed off. She'd doze off for a minute or two and then wake up and start talking. My Aunt knew the woman and asked her to tell us how old she was, because she'd just had her birthday. The woman said, "A man asked me how old I was, the other day and I told him I'm 106. He said, you don't look a day over 100!" Vanity never dies. And good for her. And the guy who complimented her. She clearly was feeling good about only looking 100 years old. :-)

WWould you buy life without death
eternally healthy
and bypass the pearly gates?

It will be the most wealthy.
who are the most stealthy.
Picture an immortal Bill Gates.

Could science deliver
would you donate your liver
so Bill can avoid his last breath?

Should it be secret,
would you want to know
the ways we have to cheat death?

It is not what we need
but the rich may succeed
as immortal gods' of greed.

What if dictators
could live forever
and pass on their evil seed?

Can we crack the code
to become immortal
and live up to 800 years?

I bet that we could
but doubt that we should,
live for 200 leap years.

Is life without death
worth the expense?
Does it go against nature's rhythm?

They'll give it a try
they won't be denied
the chance to take it with'em.

Soon gene therapy
is all that they'll need.
It has nothing to do with clones.

They won't live forever
But ties would be severed
and they'd find themselves alone.
