All aboard a lugger, we're on our way What'll we do in Broome? 09 Sep 04 - 05:02 PM (#1267899) Subject: Lyr Req: I'm Taking you back to Broome today From: Kitty Seems to be a fun song, but a group of people are singing it on a cd, and it seems to be after several drinks. Can only understand about half of it... If you have the lyrics, that'd help lots! thanks K |

09 Sep 04 - 06:15 PM (#1267975) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Taking you back to Broome today From: Malcolm Douglas That elided final -g is always a problem, as people use it so inconsistently. I expect Joe's link is the answer. With luck, Bob Bolton will turn up at some point, he's your man for the Antipodean repertoire. One thing, Kitty: it always helps if you tell us everything you already know when asking a question. From your other posts, I assume this is an Australian piece; but what was the recording? Name, date, location, personnel, all that sort of thing can make searching a lot more productive. |

The blue clicky thing up there is the one!!! Thanks so much. I actually had searched for it under Broome, and nothing came up. I doubt I spelled it wrong... At any rate, that is the song, so you have saved me!! Kathryn |

16 Feb 21 - 02:26 AM (#4093339) Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Back to Broome (Ted Egan) From: Sandra in Sydney best version I've heard is that sung by the Redfern Shanty Club in a small bar with around 45 singers, most under 30, belting it out after learning the chorus, under the general instruction to newcomers If you don't know the words, SING LOUDER! One of the greybeards in the audience added an extra verse about his grandfather's butcher shop. Redfern Shanty Club - check out the videos in case Broome has been included. Redfern Shanty Club on reverbnation alas, they did not include Broome. |

20 Feb 21 - 11:56 PM (#4094060) Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Back to Broome (Ted Egan) From: rich-joy "Bringing the Beer to Broome" is a song by Victorian, Peter Lenne. The lyrics and provenance are in this thread : /mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=13459 I knew it from the singing of the Alice Springs (NT) bush band BLOODWOOD*, who despite being excellent - and chosen by The Gummint as representatives of the "Face of Australia" for some years (many overseas tours!), now have barely a presence online and all their recordings are hard to find. Very Sad. Cheers, R-J PS *AFAIK, most members are still performing around The Alice. |
