More sad news. The great Rosemary Clooney, singer, actress and aunt of the actor George Clooney has died of cancer at the age of 74. She was so, so popular in the 1950s with such belting numbers as "Come on-a My House", "Tenderly", "This Ole House" and "Hey There" among others. One of her most popular roles was as Betty in the 1954 film "White Christmas" in which she starred with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Sadly her career took a down turn in the 1960s. She was married to Jose Ferrer from 1953 to 1967. Later she appeared in the hsopital drama "St Elsewhere." So sadly missed. Rosemary - the song may be ended, but the melody lingers on.

She led a remarkable life--I think she did a lot of non-musical charity work in her later years.

Yeah, my best friend and I used to charge people to watch us pantomime(lipsynch?) her 45s like Come On-A My House. I thought she was George Clooney's mother...

His Aunt I believe. My parents had "Come on-A My House" on a 78 and I was allowed to play it and dance around the front room at an early age. RIP Miss Clooney.

Oh, no! I'd heard she was not well, but I didn't realize that the end was so close for her. How well I remember that viewing "White Christmas" on television was part of our annual holiday tradition! The song going through my head right now is her duet "Sisters" from that movie:

"...Many men have tried to split us up but no one can.
Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister
And Lord help the sister who comes between me and my man!"

(Lyrics to many Rosemary Clooney songs here: http://www.rosemaryclooney.com/lyrics.html)

Farewell, Ms. Clooney, and thanks for sharing your velvet voice with all of us.

Well the Guardian tried to present her as a well-rounded sophisticated interpreter of classics....but to me "Where will the baby's dimple be" is the enduring memory. A rocking classic, and guaranteed to get any pub session alight. Well done RIP

I remember her vividly on the weekly Hit Parade program. Please don't get angry but I think Giselle MacKenzie was much better. She deserves some praise, too.
