Another song from my mother and grandmother, and again, not even sure of the title. can you help? Summer is here and the livin is easy. Fish are jumpin and the cotton is high. Your daddy's rich and your mommas good looking. Hush little baby, don't you cry. Cause one of these days your gonna rise up singing. Spread your wings and take to the sky. Til that day. Nothing can harm you. Hush little baby, don't you cry Thanks for all help! Jennifer King Reyes25@aol.com |

01 Jul 02 - 03:36 PM (#740234) Subject: "Summertime" from Porgy and Bess (George Gershwin) From: SharonA Hi, Jennifer! MMario is correct; the song is "Summertime" and it's from the opera "Porgy and Bess" written by George Gershwin. Here are the lyrics, reprinted from GershwinFan.com – SUMMERTIME Summertime an' the livin' is easy, Fish are jumpin', an' the cotton is high. Oh, yo' daddy's rich, an yo' ma is good-lookin, So hush, little baby, don' you cry. One of these mornin's you goin' to rise up singin', Then you'll spread yo' wings an' you'll take the sky. But till that mornin' there's a nothin' can harm you With Daddy an' Mammy standin' by. Hush little baby don't you cry (4 times) More about the opera here, from Classical Net: http://www.classical.net/music/comp.lst/works/gershwin/porgy&bess.html Sharon |

It's the last track on the CD, the "Porgy and Bess Suite", with several of the themes from the opera done by different soloists, etc. I forget the CD title though. (Wish I still had that CD!) |
