The Badger is looking for the worms for the parody 'little Chef' which goes to the tune of Old Shep.

He had a copy a long time ago in one of his song books which got knicked and is driving me round the bend muttering about them.

HELP please!!

At the same time we had the words for Hector the Dope Sniffing Hound. We think both songs were by the same person. Would love the ones for Hector as well.

Glad someone refreshed this thread. I think the words are by a group called 'Fascinating Aida'. I'll type them out as I know them but apologise in advance if the computer turns them into prose instead of song format!

THE SONG OF THE HOMESICK TRAVELLER
    (as recorded by Fascinating Aida)

When you're far away from your ain country,
Frae all your kith and kin wha ye hold dear,
When there's ne'er a soul you can call your friend,
And the world seems so dark and drear,
When your heart is sad and weary,
And you long once mair to see your home,
That's when I hear a voice keep calling me,
Calling me nae mair tae roam.

Little Chef, I hear you calling,
Across the waves you call to me.
For 'tis those mixed grills and not those highland hills
That mean home sweet home to me.

Oh at Heston and at Watford Gap,
'Tis no wonder folk there all wear frowns.
For the food they serve you there is total crap,
Not like the Little Chef's sublime hash browns.
There's a shop that sells your lovely souvenirs.
They always do there best to please.
And their hygiene standards are unbeatable.
Every year they check the lavatories.

Little Chef, I hear you calling.
Your free map is in my car.
Cheery waitresses in their nice new dresses
And your table mats show where you are.

Little Chef, I hear you calling.
    You are owned by THF.
Life is so much sweeter than at Happy Eater.
How I love you Little Chef.

As I say, I have a tape of 'Fascinating Aida' singing the song, which they call 'The Song Of The Homesick Traveller', but am not sure of authorship. On reflection the words could be by Adam McNaughtan or someone similar. I'd be very interested to know.

I've also just realised that the original song requested was to the tune of 'Old Shep' and as I have only a very hazy idea of how that goes, this might be a totally different song!

Anyway - it might be of help, or of interest.

Cheers.

Thaqnks for the try HP but the words you put up aren't the ones he is looking for. Made interesting reading though :-))!

Any more suggestions/offers for the words of either Little Chef or Hector the Dope Sniffing Hound?

It's not much help, but I remember hearing that Old Shep parody. Maybe I'll wake up remembering who, but I doubt it.

It's not Les Barker is it?

I thought it was but we can't find it in any of his books and John is certain that it was by someone who moved out of this country.

It was around in the late 70's.

Mike Absalom wrote and performed "Hector the Dope-Sniffing Hound," on "Hector and Other Peccadillos," 1972, as described at his web site. The lyrics are contained in a comic-book-style cartoon. I couldn't find any evidence that Mike had anything to do with "Little Chef," however.
