Help: Macaddict-sound

In the last couple of years Macaddict carried a 'how-to' article on how to convert an apple external microphone so that it would accept a 1/4" jack from another sound source. Does anyone remember which issue that item was in? I appreciate your help. Thanks!

Would it be this:

MacAddict: November 2000 ...Use a Standard Microphone with the Mac Sane people might just spend $20 and buy an adapter to get normal microphones working on their Macs. Lunatics like us, however, would rather tear open our PlainTalk microphone and transform it... http://www.macaddict.com/issues/0011/

I just went to the MacAddict.com site and searched for "microphone".

Thanks a lot JTT! That was exactly what I was looking for. You mention an adapter for regular mikes--what would that device be called and where is it available? Have a good 4th. Thanks again.

If your Mac has an external mike that you can unplug, unplug it and take it with you to Radio Shack (so you can match it up - it could be a mini or micro plug - or some stange Macish thing). You should be able to find a conversion plug that takes the 1/4 plug on one end has has a plug to match your input hole on the other for well under $20.

I'd guess a straight plug would be more like $6 or so, but you might want to look for one with a short "pigtail" so your mini jack socket doesn't have to hold up the adapter, since it will be a little bigger than what you normally plug in there.

If you don't have a Radio Shack handy - any decent audio shop.
