song for a Friend who died...

Hi folks:
Today is the memorial for Gene Herrington, a Concientious Objector from WWII, who was a medic on Saipan during the war, a teacher and sociologist who died on Memorial day. Here is a wee song I wrote for Gene.

Gene's Song
Lorcan Otway, all rights reserved
The tune is a song, the courus of which goes "it was Irish they spoke as they laughed and played by the sea..."

Fare thee well gently Friend, as we pause now to remember thee
For thy courage and wisdom shared so generously
For the gifts thee shared with such kind humility
All who knew you will always think kindly of thee

Though quiet and gentle thy life was a lesson for all
Ner seeking credit yet answering each needy call
giving time and wisdom steadfastly showing a way
Though now gone to thy rest, thee will be in our hearts every day

InOBU, that's a wonderful tribute. Thanks for posting it. My condolences on the loss of your friend.

Genie

PS
Did you mean "Ne'er seeking credit..." in the second verse?

Dear Genie, I did in deed, thanks for the SP CK.
The funeral was today in Easton Meeting near albany New York, the site of the "Peace Feather" story, which I wrote a song about, for thouse of you with my CD, and the words are posted somewhere here about, the song being The Ballad of Judith Folger. The meeting house dates from a few years after the peace feather incident, which was about 1777, the "new" meeting house is 1790 about... amazing place. It was a well attended meeting and I sang the new song at his grave as his ashes were burried.
The peace feather is still over the door of the new meeting, still a white goose feather, though not 200 + years old. I have been invited to come up on the aniversery of the incident, which is celibrated every year since the 1770's, to sing my ballad about Zeb Hoxie and the Mohawks et al.
Gene was well remembered by all, many who were children with him in that meeting, seven decades back.
Cheers all,
Larry
