12 Jul 02 - 05:45 AM (#747032) Subject: good and glorious ale songs From: fogie I'm looking for the words to the song O good ale thou art my darling, and a fuller version of the ale ale glorious ale , served up in pewter etc. I can't find the former in the lyrics directory, and there appears to be some verses missing for the latter. I remember the lines It must rot their gutses, and give them damp feet, which refers to other countries drinks. can anybody fill in these verses, and maybe post them in the directory? |

But I always always say that a man cannot fail, On boiled beef and 'taters and a pint of good ale. |

12 Jul 02 - 12:15 PM (#747207) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: good and glorious ale songs From: fogie Yes thank you all for the help. I dont know why it didnt pick up from the words " Oh good ale thou art my darling" but it didnt seem to have a clue. It found "ale ale glorious ale" without much problem, and thanks for the extra verse which is the one I wanted- I dont suppose there are others? |
12 Jul 02 - 12:23 PM (#747212) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: good and glorious ale songs From: GUEST,JohnB My third line in that verse always goes "but good lads of England(or change to something more locally appropriate)well they'll never fail" The other lines as per the Dave Bryant version above. 14 Jul 02 - 04:33 PM (#747907) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: good and glorious ale songs From: Herga Kitty I remember Dave Bryant' version, but verse 3 got modified in the 1970s to "Some folks is teetotallers, they drink Watneys neat". I always thought the second verse was "Our MP's in Parliament our faith for to keep" rather than "our safety" - not sure that either is plausible, really. Kitty |

The clicky is to a fairly old website. There aoppears to be a new website for Free Reed records, but it doesn't seem to work at present. Happy listening Geoff! |
