Might interest readers that apparently "Ballads and songs" has been reissued. It is on the leader label LERCD2014. As yet i haven't actually been able to get a copy but it's out there somewhere. Anybody help?

Not yet clear to me who has issued it, and not sure yet if Nic will actually benefit from it.

YEs it IS clear, this is a 'Bulmer' release, and Nic is UNLIKELY to receive a penny of the royalties he is due. See the Celtic Music/Bulmer thread for more details.

There is a plea NOT to buy it, regard it as a bootleg.

Isn't the Leader label what Dave Bulmer (a.k.a. Celtic Music) bought up when Bill Leader went bust?

In which case, what pavane said.
See the "Celtic Music/Dave Bulmer saga: Part 3" thread

Not to be confused with this (announced on uk.music.folk) by Alan Crozier

IN SEARCH OF NIC JONES

can be ordered from Mollie Music, 52 Newland Park Drive, York, YO10 3HP, UK

Cheques or IMOs in pounds sterling only payable to Nic Jones/Mollie Music Price 12.99 UK, 13.50 Europe, 14.00 USA

This seems to be a compilation from live recordings and as it's a direct sale from Nic himself should be OK to buy.

And confirmed from a posting by Pete Coe on that thread, avoid "Songs and Ballads" unless you're supporting the dark side.

Both "In Search of Nic Jones" and the rather magnificent 2-CD set "Unearthed" are authorized by Mr. Jones, who receives a good part of his income from the sale thereof. Both available at CAMSCO (800/548-FOLK). "In search Of" is $18; "Unearthed is $24"

Why not buy the other one but only pay them part of the money, sending the rest directly to Nic? I and a bunch of friends did it at a festival, all of us trooped in, bought the 'official bootleg' stuff, with cheques, making one payable to the record stall and the other to the artist. They got the message but it only works if enough of you do it.

I also got the impression from hearing the broadcast on Mike Harding that the quality was not what you would expect from a properly remastered album. And are they 'real' CDs or 'home-made' on a CD writer? If so, they may not last.

Unearthed is in and being sold through the ELDERLY MUSIC (Lansing, Michigan) catalogue I just got this week.

Thanks for the tips and apologies for posting twice (i'm new to this stuff) I don't fancy paying any money to that $*%£ but surely Nic must recieve some royalties on any sales?? Like many others, i'm sure, I'm only able to hear this fantastic music on a beat up copy of a warped vinyl. Anybody know what the Jones' position is on this?

Sorry to harp on about something i know has been extensively discussed but surely there's someway....anybody (UK) fancy putting in for a heritage lottery grant? J

Sorry James, Nic gets nothing from anything Mr. B. puts out and that's what everyone is up in arms about.

His privately issued "In Search of" and "Unearthed" DO benefit him and also (from memory - sure I'll be corrected) the Topic 'Noahs Ark Trap'.

Fantastic music -yes! - shame about the man who is hanging onto the masters.

nickp....
Correction incoming alert !!!!

Recordings not available to date
Ballads and Songs
Nic Jones
Noahs Ark Trap (The jewel in the crown IMHO!)
From the Devil to a Stranger

Recordings available
Penguin Eggs (Topic Records)
In Search Of....(Mollie Music)
Unearthed (Mollie Music)

Any copies of the first 4 albums can legally be released (as I understand the situation), but there are few people around who are happy to buy them. These circumstances also apply to a Robin and Barry Dransfield Album, "Lord of all I Behold" And Mike and Lal Watersons "Bright Phoebus".

Put it this way....rearrange this well known phrase...
Pole I With Them Wouldn't a Barge Touch !!
As always, the decision is yours
