12 Jul 02 - 11:42 AM (#747180) Subject: FYI Country Roads Folk Festival, 7/20 From: GUEST,Claymore Just to let you 'catters in the DC area know about a really neat Folk Festival taking place near Shepherdstown, WV (about 1 1/2 hours from the Beltway). The two day show (July 20-21) features Tom Paxton, Bryan Bowers, Robin and Linda Williams, Bill Danoff, Mack Bailey, and Tom Prasada-Rao, as well as lessor known folk groups. I have some personal interest in this show, as the group I play with will be taking center stage as the second show on Sat. July 20th. For years we have played as the O'Hurley's General Store String Band, after the store where we have jammed on Thursday nights for the past 21 years. This year, the store proprietor, Jay Hurley can't attend, so we have one of the original members of the group Trapazoid, and the best known hammer dulcimer builder/player on the planet, Sam Rizzetta standing in. If you go to any catalog dealing with hammer dulcimers (Eldery's or Dusty Strings, etc.) you will see Sam's name as the designer or consultant of many of the models. I am stunned and honored he has agreed to play with us. Rather than bore you will details, I will simply advise you to go to mofolk.com for further information. If you decide to click on the Poster, our group is pictured to the bottom right of the written information, and I am the one with the autoharp. Two other groups who are part of the extended O'Hurley musical family are also playing; Sharon Hall and the MorningStar Consort, and Mary Dailey and LarkFire. If you don't make it, I won't miss anything, but you will. |
