15 Jul 02 - 08:51 AM (#748241) Subject: Return of the nyckelharpas From: GUEST,Sarah We did it! Two nyckelharpas are now on their way from Sweden to Yorkshire. Mine is from Uppsala and Sam's from Dalarna - pray they turn up in one piece as we both decided to have them shipped over (no smuggling a case that size into a plane cabin). Falun Festival was the best I have ever been to. Fairly small and lots of world music as well as Scandinavian trad plus music/dancing and singing three day courses. The final four-hour concert courtesy of Ale Moller and the World Music Orchestra would have had Peter Gabriel and WOMAD looking on in envy for the sheer number of diverse contributions. Aly Bain/Phil Cunningham and a belly dancer was just one of the events of the evening. It was very hot throughout, it doesn't get dark! And sitting in the midnight twilight with around a thousand totally silent people listening to kulning (don't know if correct spelling) and horns echoing across a lake was real magic. Playing a Swedish session in which a guy from Japan played Irish jigs with me was true culture shock. Definitely one to get to if you can. Cheers Sarah (Mudcatterharpa to be) |

I love what I have heard, online and on the radio, of nycelharpas...I hope we will be able to hear some mp3's of you folks when you have a chance. The diverse talents you met and the scenery, etc. sound absolutely wonderful. Thanks for sharing them! kat |
