Mumbles Maritime Festival

Having put the Swansea Maritime Festival to bed for another year, I am giving the "wake up" call to The 4th Mumbles Maritime Festival (10th-11th August)

Stormalong John, Shanty Jack, Capstan Full Strength, Baggyrinkle, Inner State Theatre and Bosun's Call will be providing the salty sea songs. The sounds of Wales will come from The Rhos Cwmtawe Male Voice Choir, and then there's The Constellation Big Band with the good old fashion song and dance from the 40's onwards.

It all takes place at The Southend Park in Mumbles, Swansea and probably in a nearby pub!! The Mumbles Yacht Club are putting on a barbecue on the Saturday night and the "salty seadogs" will be providing the entertainment.

There's a heckava lot more to do and see as well.

Again, it's all FREE. Let's hope that we have the glorious weather that we had in Swansea!

Will we see some of you Mudcatters? Let's hope so.

Mumbles Head is the headland at the western end of Swansea Bay, South Wales. It houses the Mumbles Lighthouse and the Pier, with attendant Lifeboat station. Behind Mumbles Head is the village of Oystermouth. Just off Mumbles Head are the Mumbles themselves, two small domed rocky islets. These are believed to have given rise to the name, "Mumbles" being derived from a Welsh word for a lady's "busty substances". Anything more you need to know?

Hope to meet a few more UK 'Catters this year.

Andrew

Terrific weekend. Fine singing from all and Ragged Rinkles outstanding (and original- ever groaned at how many jobs there are On Board A Man Of War? -not with their version!)
Warmest possible welcome, especially from the lovely Mme Gashee!
Nice to meet you Mr. Crane Driver. I had a look at those rocks though, and I must tell you that women's breasts do not look like that. I could suggest some web sites if you don't believe me.
Thanks again Skipper Jack. Hope you keep gigging and the money doesn't run out too soon!
Keith.
Only regret, did't realise how close Gower was and so didn't stay for Sunday night. Instead had awful M4 run amongst the footy traffic.

Keith, who are "The Ragged Rinkles"? I didn't book them!

Anyway thanks for your comments and I'm glad that you enjoyed the festival.

Keith - put it down to an over-wrought imagination (or poor memory) among sailors who'd been at sea for over a year. They didn't have web-sites to remind them of things like that in those days. After all, anyone who can mistake a dugong for a beautiful mermaid must have either

a) terrible eyesight,
b) a very bad memory or
c) a desperate need.

Make your own choice.

Agreed Andrew. Have you seen The Paps Of Jura ? Wahey!
Sorry Baggyrinkle. Ashamed of mishearing the name. Wonderful harmony.

Nobby, no expert I. I once sailed up the Sound Of Jura and had them pointed out to me. I think I saw them on the chart also. But only the one pair.
Has Crawshaw Bailey's sister Kitty emigrated?

For those who are not of SWelsh origin -

"Oh Cosher'Bailey's sister Kitty,
She's only got one T***y,
But it's very long and pointed,
And the nipple's double jointed !

Have you ever saw etc ....."
