I want to go to the folk festival!

This is an urgent plea to anyone who may, by some strange fluke of nature, have tickets to the Cambridge Folk Festival this summer going spare! Please! Or, if you know of anyone who, for some strange reason, does not want their's anymore... for the love of music LET ME KNOW!!!! Two tickets would be ideal, but I'm way past the fussy stage.

Thanks for taking the time to read this... and to everyone who is going I hope it will be as excellent as the line up promises x

What makes it so much better than any other festival (to you)? You seem so desparate to get there. There are many, many other festivals which come highly recommended...

It's got some good performers, and it's a good lively weekend. But as folk festivals go, it's way down the list in my subjective belief.

If you go along you'll very likely find someone trying to sell an unwanted ticket anyway. Camping on the main site is likely to be more of a problem, but the other site should have room.

It just seemed a good festival! I knew someone who went last year and they said they had a very good time. Besides, I really want to see "The Oyster Band" and "Atlan", and I managed to find someone to go with me this year... most of my sadly misguided pals would (quote) "rather eat nails than listen to that kind of music". I DO NOT share their oppinion. Anyway, I'm knew to the folk-like scene, and this was the only festival I knew about, but if there are others in England, dooooo let me know!

"if there are others in England," - here's a link to the Folk Roots list (and this doesn't include lots of smaller ones.)

If you can get a ticket, Cambridge can be a great weekend. Even for people who aren't that into folk music. (In fact it's when people are really into folk music they tend to put Cambridge down. I don't agree, because it's a different type of festival, and has its own good qualities.)

Here is a link to the OysterBand's website, which has tour details; Atlan? Well if that's a typo for Altan, here is their website.

Don't be like that. Go where and wehn you can! That's the ultimate you can get to enjoy this music. There are lots of them. These festivals are all over. You might want to check in your local instrument shops or libraries for posters, etc. for some of those close to you.

But be warned going to festivals can get adictive!

We're lucky because we get to take the badge stall to a lot. My favourites tend to be Festival at the Edge, Warwick, Moor and Coast, Whitby (but we can't afford the whole week!) and Alcester. However this doesn't mean to say I dislike the others.

All festivals are unique and it's worth trying a range of them if you can. I used to go to Cambridge a long time ago but then it got too expensive.

Just remember - wherever you go, have fun!

Whereabouts are you, Hazy? Warwick Folk Festival (click here) is on this coming weekend, 27/28 July and several Mudcatters (including me, singing with the Shellback Chorus) will be there- as will Show of Hands (*sigh*) and Ian Bruce and many others :0)
