What Was I Thinking When I....?

Big Mick has admitted to a political indiscretion in a different thread, but brought up the familiar feeling of looking back and thinking -- What was I thinking? We have had a similar thread before, but it is always fun.

I admit here to two of these that I have not admitted in public before:

(1) In 1960, in a school debate in the U.S. I took Richard Nixon as my candidate. What was I thinking?

(2) I once bought a Nancy Sinatra album. I think it was the pink one with her in a bikini on it. That is the only reason I can think that I did it.

yours, Peter T.

Peter, maybe the world isn't ready for this. I once voted for...um...I was too young to vote for Nixon and I wouldn't have anyway. I voted for...er, another guy. Nobody really needs to know that, though.

I once bought a Pet Shop Boys CD. I don't know why I did it. You think I ought to put it in the auction?

I've got a memory of pulling down an election poster in some election when I was very young. It was a long word and it began with C. It might have been Conservative, or it might have been Communist. One of them anyway. Same difference, as they say.

Mind you, that's not really embarrassing at all. Unlike...no I'll not up for it yet anyway.

Danged, the "True Confessions" sign is all lit up... So what better time to just unload all this stuff I've been carrying around for, ohhh, a long time.

1. Okay, first of all I did inhale and I think I had sex with that woman. (Hey, that's a better satrt that some folks that come to mind...)

2. I have been known to think to myself, "What if Dylan could actually sing? (That one was real tough...)

3. Yeah, the Nancy Sinatra album was the "pink" album but it didn't quite rival the Beatles "white" album.

4. Also in my collection of albums one might and probably will still find the likes of the Animals, the Monkeys, the Zombies, the Troggs and a bunch of other "the" bands that by today's standards,... ahhhhhh, really stink.

5. Okay, I wasn't really up for this one but, hey! Yeah, I might have told Jimmy Clark that I got to 1st base with Nina Williams back when I was 12 or so, but... (take a deep breath, Bobert...) but... but... I struck out. There, I said it...

But, hey, I never voted fir a Republican!!!

Impeach Nixon!!!!!

I had my hair permed when I was 14. Supposed to be a light, shaggy style, it turned out like the proverbial poodle. Despite assurances that it looked lovely and would drop, it never did either and I hated it.

I cut it out as soon as was humanly possible without actually shaving my head and never let another human being near my head with scissors or setting lotion again.

I got a bad egg once and persuaded someone else to throw it in Benny Goodman's desk at school(not the famous clarinettist, just a boy ). And I have an Edmundo Ros record I rather like. And once I told a girl( no I think I'll save that one).

Kat, I too have 'that' Aqua CD and I think I was about 14 or 15 when I got it. I have to say that I don't listen to it anymore. On the list of embarrassing CD/tapes I have own at some point in my life, 2 Jason Donovan albums and a VERY EARLY Kylie Minogue tape, her recent stuff is much better.

I bought a Jimmy Mc Carthy CD. He's the guy who has written loads of good songs for Christy Moore and Mary Black. Trouble is that as a singer he is absolutely shite! I didnt even play it to the end before I found my air pistol.................

I went through my collection of old LP's last weekend, and I said "What was I thinking?" to myself quite a lot! (Two copies of Allan Sherman's "My Son the Folk Singer"... Three copies of his "My Son the Celebrity"? Why??? *G*)

What was I thinking of when I married my first wife/husband? Most of us have asked that question of ourselves. Thank God I married my second wife. :-)

If I owned the Tiny Tim album I'd claim it was for it's historical interest as a re-hit of Nick Lucas's earlier Tiptoe hit. I'd try to find the Lucas album, to cover myself. Nick popularised the use of flatpicks on guitars. I never voted republican but came close to voting for Dole--I felt his pain, and I was pissed at how Clinton threw very good cabinet people overboard at the slightest media fuss. Still think it was spineless. I own 3 ukuleles. I once coaxed someone to tell an embarrassing story by saying I'd top it, then I backed out. I had a much more embarrassing story, but a crowd had gathered, and I still can't do it. MY WIFE'S FAVORITE STORY: When I was fifteen and had a job, I bought myself a pair of shoes. Thicksoled sandals. Later the day I bought them I met an attractive girl, considerably older, and wound up at her apartment. As the day wore on, her friends stopped in, and I found myself sitting on a couch, looking at my feet, stonedly wondering What was I thinking? I discreetly slipped them off and tucked them under the couch. I forgot them and went home barefoot, never to return.

Well, Bobert, in my collection of albums one might and probably will still find the likes of the Animals, the Monkeys, the Zombies, the Troggs and a bunch of other "the" bands that by today's standards,... ahhhhhh, really stand up well against today's crap.

Hey, I have a few Kingston Trio albums, and even a couple of Cumberland Three albums. I learned The Escape Of Old John Web from a Kingston Trio album and still sing it. I also had Jimmie Rogers first album... Couldn't listen to it now, if I had kept it. But, none of us are finished products. The question is, did something stupid lead you to something better?

I voted Republican once, Christie Whitman for governor. You have to live in New Jersey to understand why that's wrong.

I also own the Singing Nun CD. I really like "Dominique". The rest of the CD explains why she was a one-hit wonder.

Speaking of Tiny Tim, I once (on a dare from another teen friend) wrote a "fan" letter to Tiny Tim, asking for an autographed photo. I got one. When it came in the mail, I put it on the wall of my bedroom and my friends & I practiced tossing darts at it. It looked like it was really signed--you could see the indention of the inkpen on the backside of the 8 x 10 black & white glossy--(sorry, no circles & arrows)--possibly signed by an assistant to the secretary for the record company. What d'ya spose it'd be worth on ebay now? Don't tell me, I don't want to know! But if you want it, it's at the bottom of a mid-western dump somewhere.
