BS: Balboa Park Jam

Hi:

We would like to pick in the park, maybe the 3rd or 4th of Aug. We can pick most any weekend so are these dates okay with you? If not, what dates would be? We live down here so we can work around you.

Bill, my guitar player asks, "Is there anyone alse who sings?"

If this pans out, we will meet at the bridge over the "Reflection Pond" in front of the "Botanical Garden." (The big wood lath building)

Would this be San Diego?

Yes it would.

It sure would be San Diego. I miss that town so much. I spent a lot of time in the park. Is the Old Globe still going strong? I know the Air and Space Museum had a fire some years ago, but after I left. Did they save most of it? It was a great museum. I sure wish I could be there for this jam.

Mick

The Air&Space is in good shape, Mick, as far as I know.

Banjoest, I'd be happy to come and pick a spell, and I sing.

Advise on which date you choose -- I don't think I have any conflicts on either one so will go with your call.

Regards,

A

Amos:

Good! I'll let you know the Bat-time and Bat-day in a couple of days. We'll let other people put there 2 cents before we set this jam in cement.

Big Mick:

The Air and Space Museum was moved from where you knew to the Ford Building. That's that big round funny looking building on the south east end of the park. The Old Globe went up in smoke too. Not to worry, it has been rebuilt and it is in the same place and stronger than ever!

To bad you can't make it to the jam.

I well remember one day when it was overcast, in the fall, and I set out with a camera to take some mood shots of Balboa Park. Got some great ones, too!! One was the Old Globe, and many of the statuary. I loved that park and spent many happy hours with a guitar just sitting and singing for the birds, not really busking, but always money in the case. The San Diego area has many places where you just want to sit and play for Ma Nature. Another one of my favorites was at night, when the tide was coming in, on the south end of La Jolla Cove. You know.........where the waves hit and geyser up over the shore rocks. I also liked going to the top of Mount Soledad with a whistle, and playing "The Dawning of the Day" as the sun came up. I miss the area. But I will bet it is much more crowded since I left in 1976.

You got that part right, Mick. The rabbit warrens they've allowed to be built along the 163 and 805 corridors are a shame and a disgrace. But they can't pave over the canyons, yet!!

I'm really excited that this seems to be happening. I do a little picking and some singing but not for anyone but my classrooms. I'm a really great listener, can fetch water, hold music, carve a pick, etc though. Banjoest, those dates look good to me. I will be in that area on Sat. July 27. I'll for sure still be in there on either the 3rd or 4th. I'm know my daughter will make plans to come with me, maybe Mat and Dylan too. I think I know the bridge you are talking, Tammy will know.

Big Mick, I took my grandson to the Air & Space Museum last summer, he was 5 then. We really enjoyed it, didn't know that it had burned earlier. Kage's dad is in the Air Force so he was pretty impressed with all the things to see, not to impressed with the written stuff though. I'll keep an eye on this thread, see you soon. bet

You are more than welcomed.

It's the little bridge in the park. It's over the pond that is in front of the big lath building, it's the pond that's in all the postcards. It's not the big bridge that is over highway 163.

Heyasis! Sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun! Here's a link to a page with pix of the Reflection Pond and a tree-covered bridge; not sure if that's the right bridge, but the pond and the building behind it sure are beautiful! Balboa Park pix.

Thanks, Banjoest!

RE: Anyone sings?

What songs?

Since you are picking - do you really WANT anyone to sing? Or, is your Git Man being contrary?

Sounds, like fun.

Missed you by two weekends in the park, we flamed through there last Friday.

I know the pond! Kage and I spent a long time walking up and down it watching the BIG fish! It is really a beautiful place. The whole park is and seems so calm compared the the hustle and hurry of life outside the park. Thanks for clearing up the spot where all will be happening for me Kat.

Kat:

You can't see it but there is a small bridge right in front of the "Taj Mahal" looking building. ( See: The Reflection Pond photo) That building is called the "Botanical Garden" It's made out of wood lath. It's south and around the corner from the San Diego Zoo.

Stand by for confirmed time and date.

See at the Lath House at 1400 Sunday, then, Banj -- can't stay past 1600 though, as I have a dinner date up in Olivenhain.

"Sing with you then", as they say up in Runnymuck!! :>)
