Hey all-

Song #15 on the fourth disc of the American Anthology of Folk Music ("In The Battle Field")...anyone know all the words? These are the ones I THINK I hear...anyone else have any ideas?

It's a great old song. Thanks in advance.

IN THE BATTLE FIELD

1. Once I was in the lowlands
I was just like you
I heard a voice from heaven say
"Arise, you got work to do."
So I offered heart in hand,
and joined this preaching band,
I'm on the battlefield for my lord.

CH:

I'm on the battlefield for my lord
I'm on the battlefield for my lord
I told the lord that I
would serve until I die
I'm on the battlefield for my lord.

2. I left my friends and kindred
down in (undeciphered)
the grace of god was in my soul
(undeciphered)
and everywhere I roam
crying sinners come back home,
I'm on the battlefield for my lord.

CH

3. Sometimes the walk is weary
along the rugged way
(undeciphered)
(undeciphered)
but soon the sun will shine
in this worried soul of mine
I'm on the battlefield for my lord.

CH

4. And when I see my savior
I'll greet him with a smile
he'll heal the wounded spirit
but only as a child.
(undeciphered)
(undeciphered)
I'm on the battlefield for my lord.

CH

Not a transcription of the recording, but helps.

I AM ON THE BATTLEFIELD FOR MY LORD

Refrain:
I am on the battlefield for my Lord,
I am on the battlefield for my Lord;
And I promised Him that I would serve Him till I die
I am on the battlefield for my Lord.

1. I was alone and idle, I was a sinner too,
I heard a voice from heaven
Say there is work to do,
I took the Master's hand,
And I joined the Chritian band,
I'm on the battlefield for my Lord.

2. I left my friends and kindred
Bound for the Promised Land,
The grace of God upon me,
The Bible in my hand,
In distant lands I trod,
Crying sinner come to God,
I'm on the battlefield for my Lord.

3. Now when I met my Savior,
I met Him with a smile,
He healed my wounded spirit,
And owned me as His child,
Around the throne of grace,
He appoints my soul a place,
I'm on the battlefield for my Lord.

Another set of lyrics (From: HERE)

I'M ON THE BATTLEFIELD

I was alone and idle, I was a sinner too,
I heard a voice from heaven,
Saying there is work to do
I took my Master's hand,
And I joined that heav'nly band,
Now I'm on the battlefield for my Lord

Chorus
Now I'm on the battlefield for my Lord
Yes I'm on the battlefield for my Lord
I promised Him that I would serve Him till I die,
Now I'm on the battlefield for my Lord

I lost my flag in battle,
My staff is in my hand
I'm taking it to Jesus,
Over in the glory land
In distant land I trod
Crying sinner come to God,
Now I'm on the battlefield for my Lord

Chorus

I'm fighting for my Savior,
The battle is most won
The trumpet will be soundiing,
The coming of the Son
I'll lay my armor down
Take up my robe and crown
Then I'll walk the golden streets with my Lord

Chorus

Thanks for all of your efforts, Masato. I LOVE this song, so any help in the lyrics dept. is appreciated.

My band just started playing it (I'm really good at fudging words), so I'll give you props next time we sing it.
