I am spending next week in Durham (England) and wondered if anyone knows of any good (or for that matter bad) folk clubs or singarounds in the area. I'll be there from Monday 12th and return on Friday 16th.

The Colpitts Hotel in Durham City has a Folk Club/Singaround every Thursday around 8.30 - 11.15

Mainly unaccompanied song the time I was there last Thursday. They have been going for years and years.

Sorry don't know street but it is on main road from City Centre to Neville's Cross - Approx 1/2 mile from railway viaduct.

If you like song you will have a GREAT night

Every Thur at the Vane Terrace Art Centre About half a mile from the town centre They do have guests here at regular intervalstho not every week Bigger room

Theres quite a bit more I will have to check

We were made very welcome at the Croxdale folk club at the Daleside Arms Croxdale just a couple of miles out of Durham, good beer, Tuesday Nights John Kelly 01388 815162. Nice old fashioned club were all ages and abilities are not just tolerated but welcomed for their diversity. We went when I went to visit my daughter who is at University in Durham, so if you go and buy anything from the off licence on the corner over the bridge in the centre of Durham say hello to Charlotte for me I'm missing her!

If you have transport, on Monday you can either go to The Bridge in Newcastle or The Sun in Stockton on Tees (both venues named after the hostelry in which they are held and have been for the past 40 years)
On Wednesday, another long running club is Birtley ....run by the Elliott family at the R.O.A.B club in Birtley.

Auntie has just come back from Durham and she says there are signs all around the city saying Folk Works are on. Anybody know what this means?Cllr

Folk Works are an organisation that run summer schools in all things folky The pact are a product of folk works summer schools (I think) see sam pirts new website for confirmation of that one. Folk Works is run by Alister Anderson and crew, they've been responsible for some of the finest musicians to come out of the north east of England recently. I think they have a web site but don't know the URL.
