mermaid festival

I've decided to have a Mermaid Festival here on the North Oregon Coast and would like to have someone (our local musicians) sing the mermaid songs/shanties. I see a lot of wonderful songs on the site, but wonder how to obtain the music. Can anyone give me more info? I'm not a musician--I have a bookshop and a bed and breakfast--so I really don't know how to proceed.

Where and when? This is definitely one for the Boat Band (we'll get working on the costumes).

Seems to me that Guest Peg wants to know how to find the Music for the songs she has found here. Here is the SuperSearch result for and @mermaid:
Mermaid. If there is a Click to play link at the bottom of the page, the sheet music can be found here:
DT Mirror.
This site seems to be down at the moment, but keep trying. Also, many of the songs posted in the forum have either a MIDI or an ABC tune attached. To learn about ABC, look for Chris Walshaw's ABC Home page. It's a great tool.

Would love to! Alas, the commute would be hellish. Good luck with it...it sounds like a blast!

when would you have it? I live in Long Beach, Washington and would come if I could...would it be te weekend of October 18? I was in the process of calling a gettogether here that weekend....be sure and get hold of Mary Benson in Portland (Hillsboro?) who is somewhat of a mermaid expert I guess...does a great job on Jack and the Mermaid....

I have an artist friend who is an expert on mermaids. he has written a book on the subject, and often meets poeple who claim to have experienced life as a mer-maid or mer-man...please let me know about the date of your festival, because he may want to attend! here is a page with some examples of his art-- http://www.quiknet.com/~boshe/ I think his mermad book may not be on the web page yet. You can send a message to me to keep me posted onthe festivities at: veraloe@cncnet.com. Laurel

It just so happens, I live with a mermaid. Really. Well, you tell her she's not one. I got more sense than that. If you set a date for October, we can probably come with our mermaid songs.

Thanks for the responses and ideas. The Mermaid Festival is this coming week August 16 thru 25....It's turning out to be fun and a lot of people are interested so we'll probably do it next year too.

are there manymermaid sightings up there on the No. Or. coast? I shoucl think they would like those rocky coasts better than sandy ones--unless they like the water warm?
